Climate in Tenerife.

The island of Tenerife has a windward and a leeward side, with the trade winds caressing the north of the island continuously from spring till autumn. That’s why the north of Tenerife is good place for surfers and windsurfers. The south of the island is hot and sunny all year round.

The north of Tenerife is cooler and moister and can be divided up into three climatic zones: the land beneath the clouds, the land inside the clouds and the land above the clouds. Beneath the clouds there is a warm climate all year round with many hours of sunshine and hardly any rain. Rain is more likely to fall in the late autumn and winter months.

The land inside the clouds has higher degree of humidity, grater rainfall and cooler summers. The sun usually shines only in the mornings. Temperatures at night and during the winter are also a lot cooler that those in the costal regions.

In the south of the Island clouds are generally rare. The sun shines longest here in both summer and winter. Those looking for all the sun they can get should go for holidays in the southern Tenerife, while those keener on hiking and moderate temperatures would do better in the north, where the temperatures are cooler.
