These crops, which are the power-house of the Island’s farming economy. This group also includes a sub-sector of cut flowers, ornamental plants and cuttings. These are grown intensively in greenhouse and represent an important part of island agriculture.
Crops of the wines cover 30% of the island’s farmland and have been booming in recent years, from both a wine producing and ecological point of view.
Another important crop is potatoes and is grown on some 4,000 ha. Potatoes have a great cultural, gastronomic and genetic importance.
In Tenerife also grows subtropical crops, such as avocados, papaya, mango and pineapple.
