El Medano is overcrowded, probably because it offers little accommodation in comparison to the other holiday centers. The town is famous in the world as an excellent place for windsurfing. The wind conditions in the bay between the town and the Montana Roja have turned El Medano into one of the top ten windsurfing spots in the world. You can find several shops in the town where you can buy or rent the equipment.
The town has its own character and you are amazed when you have a stroll through El Medano at night. There are many bars and café-bars where you can relax while listen to chill-out music.
While you are in El Medano you should try a great beach, Playa de la Tejita. It used to be very popular among local people also as a nudist beach. But now it becomes more popular and many tourists arrive here regularly. The beach is very big and provides enough room for all kinds of beach activities.
