The settlers from other countries and cultures brought different strains of wines with them from their countries, where wine was a highly appreciated part of their diet. The planted it in the new lands they were to inhabit. They did that to cover their own wine needs as soon as possible, reducing the need to have wine supplies sent across to Tenerife in the slow sailing vessels.
The new arrivals from all over Spain, Portugal and France planted their different wines in an attempt to make high quality wines, producing a variety of mixtures that were unavailable in other regions.
The wines in Tenerife were soon very famous thanks to its good quality, mainly because of the varied climate and the rich volcanic soil.
