Leaving La Orotava, and once past the wood of Agumansa, you enter the national park of Las Canadas, formed by enormous crater. The park includes the Teide Mountain.
Some scientists say that the crater appeared after a great explosion. Others think that it was the consequence of a cataclysm, resulting in the sinking of mountain massif, perhaps even higher than Teide, which once existed here. The soil here has different shades, varying from the black obsidian to the yellowish coloring of the sulphur.
What is more there are cracked mountains, which seem to have been recently split and lava remains, which after solidification have adopted curious shapes and have been transferred into legendary beings in the imagination of the island’s inhabitants.
One of the biggest attractions in Las Canadas is the row of rocks opposite the Parador Nacional Hotel known as Los Rogues de Garcia. From here you can enjoy some impressive views. The Parador Hotel is he only place that provides long-term accommodation.
