Market of Our Lady of Africa in Santa Cruz

On the Market of Our Lady of Africa in Santa Cruz you can find flowers, fruits and vegetables. Other stalls are laden with fish and meat. You will also find small live animals, a multitude of curious cheeses made of cows’, sheep’s or goats’ milk and a home made honey. You can also buy there cassettes and CDs mostly with Spanish and Latin American music.

The market is located near the hart of the oldest quarter of Santa Cruz, close to the lanes of a red light district and spills out into the surrounding streets. You can buy there many fabrics and variety of household items. The entrance to the market is a circular arch that leads to the flower-stall area.

The Market of Our Lady of Africa is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 to 1. On Sunday a rastro market sets up outside the market hall. It is a flea market and a craft market, where an array of stallholders from home and abroad sell cheap souvenirs, leather goods and secondhand items as well as plenty of genuine high quality arts and crafts.

The Market is worth visited; the atmosphere of this amazing place is wonderful and lively. You should be aware of pickpockets, because tourists at the market are seen as easy prey.
