The north of Tenerife

Here, in the north of the Island the whole history of Tenerife can be told, for the Guanches mainly occupied the northern half, and the Spanish also settled and cultivated this area. Until the 1960s even holidaymakers rarely ventured south of Puerto de la Cruz, except for the essential excursion to El Teide Mountain. As a result, almost all of the island’s art, culture, its Spanish colonial legacy, and its best sightseeing, are here.

It is the different climate that makes this part of the Island so different and so special. Parts of this fertile half of Tenerife are exotically verdant, with tropical flowers and greenery. That is what attracted the first aristocratic tourists, who adored the permanent springtime, rich crops and garden landscape of northern Tenerife.

In the north of the Island the wine is produced. Here you can admire mountains, fertile mountain slopes, valleys, broad lava fields, tropical gardens, misty forests, peaceful villages and exciting towns.

In the north of Tenerife you can enjoy the finest traditional cuisine. Here you can find many restaurants and bars that serve true Canrian dishes and wine. Portions are always generous. While you are in the north of Tenerife you should try fishes, because it is a mainstay of local cuisine.
