Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the economic, social and political centre of the Canary Islands. The centre of the town is an attractive mixture of the older quarters, which contain old and modern architecture.
The capital of Tenerife is also an industrial and commercial centre of the Island. Industrial buildings are built beside the residential areas.
Cultural life in Santa Cruz is very varied. There are magnificent concerts in the Auditorium and Teatro Guimera. There are many restaurants, bars and discos in the capital of Tenerife.
One of the most important sights in Santa Cruz is the Plaza de Espana, Plaza de la Candelaria, which lies at the very hart of the town. You should also visit Monument de los Caidos, Palacio Insular, Iglesia Nuastra Senora de la Concepcion, Nature and man Museum and Marcado de Nuestra Senora de Africa. In the last one you can buy fresh products. It’s even more like an oriental bazaar, where handmade jewellery and exotic imports all lie out waiting for the buyers.
