Through the keyhole - Finca Paraiso, Valle de Guerra

This article is supplied by Living Tenerife Magazine

Brian & Rose Gowland moved to Tenerife just over two years ago with their two children Chelsea and Brandon from the Isle of Man. Having visited Tenerife several times on holiday they already had a great efinity with the Island and for a long time seriously toyed with the idea of moving here permanently, but they had big commitments in the Isle of Man. Brian had a construction company, Rose had a large kindergarten and they also had a property management company and to top it all they were building a new house. On their last holiday to Tenerife they decided to purchase a penthouse in Palmar and use it everytime the children were off school.

Having dinner with their estate agent/friend she asked them a question “what would make you move here permanently” and without hesitation Rose answered the right property. After discussing at length their ideal property, she made notes and assured them that she would find that property if it existed. “Our brief was extensive and we felt sure that property didn’t exist.” Five months later they got a phone call from their friend , she was beside herself with excitement, saying she had filled their brief and more. Three days later they flew out, hoping it wouldn’t be a waste of time, they had given her a very difficult brief including, what they didn’t want, and that was an over promoted“Architecturally Designed Villa” they wanted something very special & unique.

Within the small hamlet village of El Salto lay their dream home and as they swept down the drive to the property,” we can still remember the feeling to this day, we were totally overwhelmed by its uniqueness, its character, its beauty, the views, the grounds and above all the attention to detail. It made such a visual impact and still does.” We have designed & built many properties, and have viewed several properties here on the island ,but nothing has ever compared to Paraiso,we fell in love with it and bought it instantly. Eight weeks later after employing management teams to manage their businesse’s they were here in Tenerife. There were aprehensive moments, but they soon disappeared, they enrolled the children at Wingate and got down to enjoying the life that Tenerife has to offer. “We have made many good friends and so have the children”.

The icing on the cake was always Paraiso a beautiful luxury private estate that offers them the privacy, seclusion and tranquility they like, yet only ten minutes from Reina Sofia Airport and the stunning beaches of El Medano.

Paraiso is extensive incorporating the Manor Lodge and five individually designed guest suites for family and friends, a great entertaining area for parties, two avairies, and a fabulous lagoon stlye pool with cascading waterfall, an enormous cave garage for five cars & workshop. There are an additional four caves ,Chelsea & Brandon and their friends have great fun in these.

The estate is predominantly constructed of stone, glass and two hundred year old oak stripped from an old galleon ship and has a decididly nautical theme. Oak posts run the lenth of the entire estate with ship ropes defining the walkways to each suite & the impeccible manicured grounds home to 2,000 tropical plants and trees.

The Manor Lodge has probably the most nautical feel of all and stands majestically within its own grounds. Its tall façade of glass resembles the bow of a ship and the interior is exquisite, with Argentenian marble floor with an oak inlay by the bespoke kitchen. Tiffany stained glass doors front the two double bedrooms and bathroom. A galleried bedroom with stunning views to the ocean and surrounding gardens. A large oak central staircase defines the open plan living space of the lounge/diner.

As you stroll further along the grounds there is Tosca Suite a detached studio surrounded by beautiful gardens, fully self contained with impeccible décor with bespoke fixtures and fittings.

Directly at the pools edge is Paradise Suites 1 & II again fully self contained with lounge/diner /kitchen and bathroom. Argentenian marble flooring throughout and several unique features constructed of oak. Large terraces surround these suites and the chirping of the birds from the avairies create a wonderful relaxing ambience.

“Bedrock Cavern” a tall façade of glass and wood extends across the Cave entrance adding unexpected elegance to the rocky exterior. The vast terrace is flanked by an abundance of greenery, inside, the carved walls meet an extrodinary high ceiling making this an extremely airy abode. A unique feature again is the inlay of Oak that stretches across the kitchen floor and oak posts halt in mid air to denote the different areas of the living space adding to its original flair.

At the far end of the estate lies the Garden Suite, partly hidden behind an arched wall of bouganvillous this suite offers complete privacy and seclusion. Large terraces lie to the front with BBQ and shaded dining area. This suite is constructed with glass and oak allowing the beauty of the gardens to flood in. Again the décor is exquisite.

Brian & Rose are selling their beautiful estate. Six weeks ago they applied for their visas for Australia and are very excited at the prospect of their new life down under. “ we know that we will never find a property as beautiful as Paraiso, we have been looking for something simular for quite sometime now, So we have decided to try and recreate Paraiso ourselves in Australia. However, we have loved our time here in Tenerife and we will be very sad when we do leave and we will miss our wonderful friends, we hope that they will have the same great memories of us and our parties as we will of them.
