Tenerife traditional cuisine.

The traditional cooking in Tenerife has always been based on simple dishes prepared with the high quality and fresh ingredients. Visitors are faced with endless choice of typical restaurants in which they can try typical island’s wonderful specialties.

The sea that washes the coasts of Tenerife is another great source of ingredients for island cuisine, in fact it is a larder packed with the most exquisite fish and sea food the Atlantic has to offer.

What makes the traditional food of the island so good are the vegetables: delicious tropical and sub-tropical fruits like bananas, papayas and mangoes, tasty potatoes, grapes and tomatoes are a fine examples of this.

Canarian deserts are also delicious. You should try turron de gofio, a pastry made of almonds, honey, maize and figs, bienmesabe, a confection of honey and almonds eaten with a mousse of gofio, or frangollo, a sweat pudding made of maize and milk.
