Vilaflor in Tenerife

Vilaflor is a different from other parts of Tenerife. It is 1,400m (4,593ft) above sea level and is the highest village in the Canaries. You can easily find there forests with pine trees. The most renowned specimens are those called ‘pinos gordos’ – thick pines, one of which has a trunk 8m in circumference and is 60m high.

Vilaflor is a quiet and welcoming, with is winding streets is characterized by the carefully looked-after facades of the large, old houses. In the uppermost part of the village is situated the San Pedro church, in which you can see an image of the saint Peter, attributed to Pedro de Mena, and the richly carved altars. Vilaflor has become a veritable sanatorium for those suffering from lung complaints because of its great altitude (1,400m) and its pure air. The village is also well known from its mineral waters, which gush from the Agua Agrida and Traste de Dona Beatriz springs.

Highly esteemed is the typical hand-made local lace. Surrounding the Vilaflor are outlined the magnificent peaks of Las Lajas (2,165m), Guajara (2,715m) and Los Retamares (2,534m).
