Hi, I am Leanne !
Chris and I moved over when we were 19 and lived in Las Tajinastes in PDLA, acros road from Oh La La's / Columbus Hotel. We paid 470e for this 1 bed apartment, big balcony, great views, wash machine in bathroom (that is important as many do not have wash machines) with studio part. Not massive but you are very rarely in it, especially with what you are sounding like you want it for.
I was a PR not on the strip or starco ... on the Patch and I earned a hourly rate so I got paid 25e for 4 hours work, 7-11, this was a family bar and I could afford to live on this as Chris work in Mary Rogans Irish music put and he got a 6e hour for bar work and tips on top which way covered the monthly rent so my wages were to spend on a day to day basis on food etc !
BUT working on the Starco/ Linkers altough not a reliable / steady wage you CAN earn BIG money in PEAK season and IF you are GOOD and not ALWAYS leathered !
Although it is seen as the fun side of the job, getting drunk makes you less determined to get people in and you do just want to go and party !
A few drinks to give you some confidence and bit of a bizz yes but getting leathered and newbie holiday makers to the island ( your easiest catch) will see this and be scared off !
You are generally always per head down there between 50c and 1e.
It always helps being young and pretty .....so your on to a winner as all the lads will just flock your way and think how many groups of lads are out there ?!
It is however NOT easy, you have your days like us all when you can not be bothered with work and it is THE WORST job to have at this time, as you may want to hide and not speak to people but this is your job !
Sometimes you can feel demotivated, belittled by people snubbing you or making rude remarks to you !
IGNORE THEM !
You are there to make a living while you are having a good time do not let the small minded people out there for a couple of weeks get you down ! Smile be polite and just say to them if you want any help come back and ask me later !
Do not miss people as they look like they are too old, young etc
I found PR'in some of the older generation loved interacting, I also found that asking them where they were off and if they said a nice meal I would always say what kind you looking for , well there is a great restaurant here blah blah blah !
WIn people round like this and by just saying it is your fave restauant wins them and they usually come in to your bar after just as a thank you and leave quickly if they don't like it !
I used to get customers taking me and Chris out for lunch for giving them a good reccomendation etc , some people are lovely and they will come back every night and make the job worth it !
Obviously it is hard work, it can become sould destroying but you are there for a reason and if you are good at it and light hearted you can make a packet !
2 girls in by block brought home one week what me and Chris weren't bringing in, in a month ! Good night, a few groups of lads, peaks season, put it in your pocket or bank and your laughing !
Workes prices WOW ! Put it this way I could go out with my 25e wage at 11pm and Chris would meet me at 3am and I would have 24e left lol
One thing you can also do when your out and about it say to some fellow holiday makers who you may have got chatting to you buy my drink and I'll get your round at workers prices....... my friends that came over frm Burnley went and got a round in linekers and it cost 25e for 4 drinks ! !
I went it cost 4e ! ha ha So there is that way to bargain too !
In terms of having your own rooms it may be possible if you take enough out and you are good at PR'in! Or if you find a 3rd person and get a 3 bed which in the Altamar I know are around 900e a month and that would cost you 300e each.... most apartments usually include bills or a certain amount of them !
Any question just ask...... if PR'in you are right though you need to be down that end of town to be making enough to run an apartment on !

Hello & Welcome Little LP
This is a fantastic forum to find all the information you will need to live out your dream.
As you have found out so far from the replies there is a host of knowledge on & off the island.
Use the search for topics of interest and you'll not go far wrong.
Good luck!

Hi Lucy and welcome.
What more can I say after Lea's post (which I think should be nominated for the champers!).
Get learning Spanish and it will open many other job opportunities up for you. I worked at the airport (for a German company) when I first got here and friends of mine did night transfers for Airtours so they had all day to go to the pool/beach. What other jobs could you do? PRing can be quite an unstable wage but if it's what you like then go for it. As Lea says it can be tough out there. _________________ Who am I? Hi Lucy,
I wish I was 21 too and been able to take the plunge and move abroad.
We're aproaching retirement and moving to Tenerife as soon as possible.
Think Lea's post was brilliant and agree with Jenny that Lea should have the champers nomination.
Just do it, but be careful and and good luck.

Hi Little LP
Hope you find the forum helpful I have, I am moving out in January, but I am lucky to be able to be taking a little bit more money than you and am already doing a course in Spanish, I am doing a ten week intensive at college for £240 its well worth it so you can try and get a better job with the basic lingo. Its great fun too. Most apartments I have looked at are about €350 - 550 per month
Good luck and may see you in the future on the reef
