Post Post subject: Social Security numbers Reply with quote

As we all know, Social Security numbers are needed to legally work and register with doctors.

There seems to have been a recent change in what office to go to for what you need -
To get a new number for yourself, go to the office in Los Cristianos (road running parallel to bus station)
To add children to your number, go to Granadilla - which will be a pain in the proverbial if you don't have a car.

We went along to the LC office as we were picking up Judith's NIE anyway. We were told we should go to Granadilla. OK, not a problem as were in the vicinity anyway.

So, another day and off to Granadilla we go (kids were at school). Didn't really know what we needed to take but thought we would get Judith's social number while we were there if we didn't have the right docs -
Granadilla has a semi-automatic number system - a security guard Very Happy
He told us Judith has to go to LC for a new number but we can do the kids there, so we get a number and take a seat.

After waiting our turn we are told the following are required -
Passports - parent and child
birth certificates - childrens
parent social number
Certificado de Empadronamiento - parent and child

OK, so we didn't have the birth certificates and only had my Empadron. Our Town Hall is Granadilla anyway so off we go to get everyone 'Empradronamientoed' - very easy, showed the girl mine and she just copied all the details from my record.

Next day, and I go back up to Granadilla by myself to sort them out. But no...
... apparently we also need Certificado de Registro for the children Shocked

The look on my face at that point must have been good as the guy relented and processed me anyway, but told me to get the Certificados as soon as possible.

So in summary, to add your children to your social number, you need to go to Granadilla and take -
Passports
Cetificado de Empadronmiento
Certificado de Registro
Your Social Security number
Childrens' birth certificates

No copies are required as they only need to see them - but take some anyway Very Happy

Hope this helps someone else save a little time

Sam.
