Telefonica have just lost their monopoly however they unofficially have a two tier service system for adsl. If you don't use them as a supplier and save yourself 1 euro per month the 'service' if you get a fault is appalling whereas Telefonica's 'service' to their own direct clients is just very bad.

There are no cheap broadband suppliers....39 E per month! In our case with a faster connection I pay fifty something per month!

It's cheaper in mainland Spain where there's more competition!

Maybe things will improve if there is some competition but we will have to wait and see.

The woman on the phone today said that if i had paid them 5€ a month extra cover then it would have been free for someone to come and look at my router but seen as i dont pay that then it is 50€ callout, even though it is only 3 weeks old!!

I am no computer whizz but it worked on one computer and then didn't on the second one but yet if i can prove that it DID work then she said that they can look back and see this!!!

Why do they make everything so damn hard work Twisted Evil

So all in all it has cost me €112 for the phone connecting, the ADSL was free but because i have 2 computers it cost me €34.95 and then it will be €59.40 a month which they took out at the same time and then €100 today so all in all not a bad profit for pants service!!!

I'm not sure how a 'single port modem' works. But assuming the single port on the modem is an RJ45 (Standard network connection) surely you could use that single port on the Telephonica modem to uplink into a multiport router or wireless router and Telephonica couldn't tell you were running more than one PC from behind the router since the router would perform NAT (Network Address Translation)

If Telephonica lock the port of the modem to a single MAC address you could even clone that MAC onto the router.

Andy,
What you have just said then has gone way over my head but i think telefonicas' attitude is "oh they don't speak english so we can rip these off to high heaven" and even if they have a problem all we can give them is the number for the technical dept and all they speak is spanish soi f you are english you are in trouble!!!

I think you mean "oh they don't speak Spanish".

"all we can give them is the number for the technical dept and all they speak is spanish " .....yep, that's normal in Spain! Rolling Eyes

Does BT give a service in Spanish for Spanish speakers in England?

Another very good reason for learning Spanish.

While I agree that Telefonica take every opportunity to rip off people, the fact that many English won't bother to learn Spanish is not their fault.

If you have any more problems with the router Fiona...give Neil a shout. He will sort ot out.

You have as nmany wireless units connected to one router....it is not a problem. We have 3 computers in our house all with internet connection.

We have never had to pay any more for it though.

That's what I said Very Happy

One assumes that the single port Telephonica 'Modem' referred to earlier is indeed a modem / single port router then? If this is the case it's simple to extend this throughout the property either wired or wirelessly, even using wireless 'repeaters' if required.

i still don't get this lol business.
i thought it was meant to stand for lots of laughs but it just doesn't seem to make sense.
i think it must be some secret code that they don't want to tell me about.

Sorry Smile but this is so basic I would not even call it networking. I'm sure Fiona could 'leave me standing', but just in a different subject.

It would make sense if you knew Mary, she's always smiling, happy and laughing.
