Since you were speaking about PC probs thought I would ask here if anyone knows the answer to my PC prob......
My main PC was working fine but I was out on Friday night and my mum was watching my kids, she allowed my daughter and her friend to use my PC, last night when I turned it on It will not log into windows, It switches on and goes through the set up but will not connect to windows, ( I run XP ) I thought it was just running slow but after leaving it for a while still no change in it, it ended up with me having to switch it off via the main connection at the wall... therefore I cannot do anything with it, luckily enough for me I also have a lap top run via a router so I can still access my emails, forum etc but its sort of bugging me as to whats wrong with my PC, can anyone explain or suggest what I can do to rectify ???
I would be greatful if someone could inform me what I need to do to try to sort this problem so I can try before being forced to call upon an expert.... and probably not have my machine for probably quite a while. |
I have never had that problem, so can't help but am very sorry to hear about it! Let's hope Paul who posted before you sees this. Why not send him a PM anyway? Neil is also very good with PCs!
I hope you get this sorted out, Dianne! |

Does it come up with a black screen full of white writing which stays on for a while?
If it does you'll see at the bottom a list of choices, one of these will say something like 'start in safe mode'. Use your arrows to highlight this and then click enter. It should do the trick. _________________ .

Rob,
No it stays at the windows XP loading screen and doesnt move on from there Iv just left it running for a bit while I was out and came back and it said that I had a fatal system error, then something I couldnt quite catch saying the session manager initialisation system was terminated unexpected !!!!!! oops. it then launches into a black screen the set up screen, with all the information on it and flashes for a second, not long enough to catch what it is saying, then goes to a black screen that says press N to boot from network, then flashes back to the windows Xp screen, seems like its going round in circles like this until I do something with it but not being technical minded I dont want to mess about and possibly cause more problems. systems eh there fine when they work, good job Iv a laptop to fall back on but done half miss my PC.
Looks as if I'll need to take it into my IT guys at work when I go back next week, just kinda thought I'd look daft if it was something simple and thought Id ask if anyone could advise. _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |

Without being in front of it and seeing what it does it's impossible to say, 'fatal error' could be a million things. I think you'll have to take it to your IT guys. _________________ .

1st option:
Keep pressing the F8 key as you boot up.You will get to a screen of options.Choose the,"Last Known Good Configuration" option.
If kids have been on the computer I have known them drag important files into the recycled bin thus ruining the installation. In this case a repair re-install can be done with the WinXP cd but as I am not allowed at the moment to post links you best email me.A repair re-install keeps all your settings etc intact.

Thought Id let you know that my PC is not back from my IT guys at work and in perfect working order ( perks of the job ) asking the IT guys at work to fix it
apparently he found loads of errors on one of the the hard drives, and managed to repair it, hes updated all my software and loaded additional anti virus software on it.
have to admit its great to be able to use a normal keyboard at home again ( I can even see the letters on the one I have at home Bard !! ) unlike my BLACK keyboard I have at work with very little lettering left on it !! lol only problem was I had to reload some drivers for my web cam, printer etc, these took some diggin out as I havent needed them since installing the hardware many years ago......
All done now, so hopefully no more problems. _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |
