Post subject: A very bah humbug week |
|
|
What a week I have had and today I was definitely feeling bah humbug!
Earlier this week I found I had a virus on my PC that had got in via Video Egg Publisher from Facebook! I had been blaming various things going wrong on everything but the real cause - Trojan generic 25658 aka videoeggpublisher.exe
which AVG missed and I discovered by searching online PC tech forums and a scanner that did find it - http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/
I found out about the virus because my Free Registry Fix froze and wouldn't let me do anything!
Anyway with the use bitdefender I got rid of it in part but there was still a few things going wrong I wanted to clean up.
Because Free Registry Fix was messed up I uninstalled it and went to get another which wouldn't work so I got the upgrade and paid for it and that didn't work either! Eventually I got hold of a technician from the company who talked me through registry editing to remove every trace of the old one before I downloaded the new one again!
PC problems sorted out at last but all of it took hours! Beware Video Egg Publisher!
Then on Wednesday I thought I would go into Icod to visit the newly reopened Mariposario del Drago, which I had seen open a weekend back and says it is open daily. I intended getting some photos and writing some articles on the place. It wasn't open so that was a wasted journey!
Then today the worst of the lot - I got online and had attended to my mail and thought I'd run am AVG scan while I made my breakfast. Unfortunately it said it couldn't find the server for the new update. I tried again - same result. I tried other sites and none could find the server. I thought OK it's a very bad line so let's disconnect and start again. I disconnected but then couldn't get back on because it kept saying it was unable to establish a connection at a remote computer!
I had to get a bus in the next 10 minutes to take me to Los Gigantes and then to Alcalá where I was going to collect a bundle of the new Tenerife Sun and my wage but for reasons unknown the office was closed. Things are not going well I thought so all I can do is call this another wasted journey and go home. By the time I got to Las Americas it was another 2 hours wait to get a bus back here so I went to Silencio to kill time not being able to do much else seeing as I didn't have much money on me!
I finally got the 4.pm bus back and instead of a 90 minute run because it was packed with people and had to stop at many places it took 105 minutes meaning I missed the bus back here and I had to walk the final stretch after a most disappointing day!
The only good news is that this connected OK so it must have been Telefonica all along! Bah humbug! |

You certainly have had a bad week, glad you got the virus sorted out.
I run AVG and have always trusted it to find any problems.
Hope that next week and Christmas goes better for you Bard

Most if not all the south of Tenerife had no net connection this morning, then it was very slow all day. Now it's fast again. _________________ .

Sorry to hear about your day/week Bard. Google 'smitfraud' and download the powerful free virus detector and fixer. It has stood me in good stead on a few occasions. _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.

Ooh. I see what you mean Bard.
Google 'smitfraudfix' and you get an entirely different programme. This one is the genuine article, I promise. _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.

I've been building and fixing PCs since Win 3.11 and dos all through to WinXP.Not bothered with Vista yet.Over the years I've built up a good armoury of excellent free anti-virus/anti-spyware/reg cleaners etc.
I've let my old Win98 web pages go a bit as there's not much call for them,
Here's a list of good free software to help protect/fix and keep the spped up on PCs all of which I use.
AVG has already been mentioned but also
A squared anti-trojan free,
must be run manually and does not run in the background.
Adaware SE,
Manual scan
Spyware guard,
runs in the background.
Comodo Firewall,
Free good firewall.
Ccleaner,
cleans unneeded files and has a decent registry cleaner/fixer built in.I use it after every surf session.
Auslogics defrag,
Faster defrag.
MISPBO registry cleaner/fixer and registry back up and registry defragger/compactor,
Use to make a back of the registry in case of invasion.
I'm not allowed to post links so you will have to use a search engine with the words.

My Bard, you did have a bad few days..... glad to here your back online and things are ok now.
Since you were speaking about PC probs thought I would ask here if anyone knows the answer to my PC prob......
My main PC was working fine but I was out on Friday night and my mum was watching my kids, she allowed my daughter and her friend to use my PC, last night when I turned it on It will not log into windows, It switches on and goes through the set up but will not connect to windows, ( I run XP ) I thought it was just running slow but after leaving it for a while still no change in it, it ended up with me having to switch it off via the main connection at the wall... therefore I cannot do anything with it, luckily enough for me I also have a lap top run via a router so I can still access my emails, forum etc but its sort of bugging me as to whats wrong with my PC, can anyone explain or suggest what I can do to rectify ???
I would be greatful if someone could inform me what I need to do to try to sort this problem so I can try before being forced to call upon an expert.... and probably not have my machine for probably quite a while. _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |
