Hi Tammy and Alan and Welcome

We moved to Tenerife almost 2 years ago from the UK. Our main reasons were safety and the lifestyle children have. They really are welcomed with open arms by the community. My son was 3 then and he is now 5 in Spanish school, he loves it.

It is not a holiday as most of our friends back in the UK tend to think lol, we do work very hard to be able to live here.

Hi Stripps, this is Alan, Tammy's husband.... I feel better already, you see, this is what we miss, as you have probably realized already, we have a good sense of humor, firstly our spelling has gone American, and secondly, we are a family from Florida who have joined your forum, and who want to move to a country where they have never been to before, live somewhere where they have never seen, buy a business in a town they have never set foot in, send the kids to school in a town or a village that they probably won't be able to prenounce, so as you can see, we have a sence of humor.
Alan

I had only been here once for a week before we came over here....Although we had actually made the decision before I visited...lol You have already made the move once so this time should be slightly easier I would have thought.

There will be a paperwork trail but once thats done....no worries...lol

I have my children in Spanish school like Karlb and mine also love it.

Hi, the first essential is to get learning Spanish. We also have a juniors section on here for the under 13s ONLY if your kids want to ask questions. It's not highly used but those with kids will try to get the kids to help.

Hi Tammy, Alan and family, and a belated welcome from me.

I had also only been here on holiday for a week before I decided to move here. But I had no kids or responsibilities so it was fairly easy for me.

The people on our forum are a lovely bunch but believe me there are also a lot of negative / not so nice people here in Tenerife.

There is paperwork to be dealt with here and in a different language so, like Rob says, the sooner you get learning the language, the easier it will be for you here. Or you will have to make friends with a Spanish speaker Wink

Many people come here for the Tenerife Dream - I guess it is similar to the American Dream. Many people do not succeed. But if it's what you really want to do and you are willing to work hard at making it, then you may well succeed too, like lots of us on here. It's not impossible and with an entertainment background, you are in the right place!

We always recommend you rent in an area before you decide to buy so you are not stick in an area you don't like. Also, IMHO, you should come over and work for others first before you go putting money into setting up a business here so you can see how it all works and find out if it's for you before you spend all your hard-saved cash.

I will make this day a happy one for I alone can determine what kind of day it will be.

Thank you all, it is a friendly forum, the advice so far is appreciated, with regard to the Spanish language, believe it or not, speaking Spanish here is also a must, a lot of people don't realize that the USA has a huge Hispanic community, for example, my little girl is the only white non Hispanic girl in her class, and my boy who is 13 is the minority in his school, Tammy, and the kids already know a little Spanish, especially our youngest, we started learning the language a few months ago, nothing to do with moving to Tenerife, but to actually help us understand a large percentage of our customers, 90% of our customers are Hispanic.
And yes I agree about the working hard, when we came over here, we were part of a Florida forum, and we made many friends in the UK, all doing what we were doing, and eventually met up with them all when we eventually moved over, we watched people living a vacation.... for months, they just couldn't get of the vacation mode, and most of them failed, to be honest, I think we did the same, but not for months, but for a good few weeks.
And yes, we have made a decision to rent first, we were actually lucky, because we bought a property when we came over, but the hurricane damaged it so bad that we couldn't close, so we ended up not buying, and it was the best thing we did, in four years we have moved area's 3 times, and now the economy is so bad, especially the property market, no one can sell, we have some friends who unfortunately didn't do too well, and decided to sell up and leave, this was around 2 years ago, they ended up leaving there home at the end of last year, to foreclose and the business was just folded, so we are lucky in that sense, and we did make the right decision.
People... we have our fair share of greedy, nasty, un-trustable people here, when we arrived in Florida, I can honestly say that I trusted everyone, I am a people person, and throughout my life, no one had ever, seriously done anything wrong to me, I had trust in everyone, I now trust no one, I have been back stabbed, used and stolen from, and guess what, none of the people that hurt me, or should I say hurt my family were American.. or Spanish, need I say more.
So, as I said at the beginning of this post, the advise is appreciated, it, gives us the knowledge that things will be similar there as it is here, I do think we have learned by our mistakes here.
Regarding working in Tenerife, it would be nice to come out and work over there, and as mentioned, I would be in the right place, and I do know, lots and lots of acts and people in the entertainment, in fact, I used to manage a lot of them, and send them over to work, but, I do know that it would be hard to make a reasonable living to support my family working only in the entertainment business over there, but, any idea's passed on to us would be appreciated, and believe it or not, discussing our future... if we moved over there has never included working in the entertainment field, (strange) but you have made me think.
Thanks Alan
