Do you mean that when I go to a bar and tender a ten euro note that has been placed in to my hand in front of all and sundry and the man by the side of me opens a wallet stuffed full of notes, that somehow his partner has smuggled that to him without the rest of the pub seeing it?

That also explains why when a couple are engaged the man is referred to as 'Her finance' and the lady as 'His fiasco.'
