Post subject: Put your pics, film onto DVD |

I am asking about this for a friend. Does anyone know anyone, or any company that puts your dv tapes or pictures onto DVD.
Any websites?
Thanks. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

Oki doki
You don't have them Jenny because you have a little posh camcorder that records into an internal memory.
However a lot of people have camcorders that hold what is called a mini dv tape. Its a bit smaller than a matchbox.
Most people like me record onto these and then have a stack of them collecting dust on a shelf. To watch them you need to plug the camcorder into your tv and forward wind or rewind to watch. Or you can watch them on the tiny viewing screen on the camcorder.
An alternative would be to have someone to transfer these onto a dvd disk so it would have menus and you can watch them on your home dvd player.

Searched for DV tape capture and found this:
The digital video (DV) pass-through feature in Microsoft Windows Movie Maker allows you to transfer video from an analog video camera or VCR to your computer using a DV camera to connect either device to your computer. Using the DV pass-through feature is a good way to transfer older footage from an analog videotape to your computer without installing an extra analog video capture card or device on your computer. (Some popular analog video formats include 8mm, Hi-8, VHS, and S-VHS.)
See here for more info: microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/21/dvpassthrough.mspx
or just search yourself. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Simply dumping the contents of a DV tape onto a DVD is a trivially easy task if you happen to possess one of the many brands of DVD recorder which have a firewire interface into which you can directly plug the camera (I have one).
The same process is slightly more involved if you do not have such a device and requires a PC with a firewire interface, DVD recorder and the necessary software (e.g. the basic windows movie maker program).
The killer issue however is most people actually expect a degree of video content editing and the creation of a DVD menu structure to access the video clips. This process is very time consuming to achieve a decent result (don't ask me how I know this!) which I believe is the reason behind there being no/few businesses offering this facility to the public. I reluctantly agreed to do this once for a friend, subcontracted the graft (and the monetary reward) to my son but even he learned his lesson and is not keen to do the same again.
So, I would suggest the do it yourself on a PC option for best results and a bit of personal character building.
Alternatively, if you are really stuck and a simple content dump will do, then you are welcome to call by Chayofa with samples of San Miguel sometime...
