Hi Lea. Yes we have been back to the scene of the fires.
In the spring of last year we took some visitors to Masca. We all had an enjoyable day there, and that included a meal at a particular cafe/bar. We spoke to the proprietor and his wife to discover that they had only taken over the business a few months before. They had previously lived in Puerto de la Cruz and the lady's mother actually lived very near to our apartment.
Our visitors returned in the autumn and were keen to see if the village had survived the fires. We were all concerned for the couple and their business.
The evidence of the fire was all around. There were many blackened trees on the approach to the village, but we were amazed by the number of new green shoots that were growing out of the top of them. The base of the trees looked dead.
In the village itself there was just one building that was totally gutted. Some showed considerable scorch marks, but the inhabitants were behaving as though nothing had happened. The little square was festooned with buntings to celebrate a festival.
The bar we wanted to see was virtually untouched and the couple were getting on with their business. They told us that the villagers had to be evacuated during the fires and they were away for forty-eight hours. They spoke of their relief to find their home and livelihood was still intact when they were allowed to return. _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.

| Great views, I was also there during the snow fall I remember it well, the clouds cleared leaving a lovely view, you have captured it well. There arnt many places in the world where you can walk in the snow and swim in the sea in the same day. |
