The rates are definitely better in Tenerife Dianne. So unless you need any for taxis before you reach the resort or for the first night etc, I would wait until you get here. I think you said you arrive on the 8th? which is a Tuesday, so everywhere should be open that exchanges money.
Or failing that, give me a call and I'll exchange it for you at my 'desperate tourist' rate |
Funky, Should I bring english cash or will I be ok using my debit card when exchanging over there, usually I bring euros from the UK but yesterday the rate was 123 per £ so I cashed enough to do me till I get there,I was going to use my debit card, im now thinking Id be better with english cash........ any advice appreciated. _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |

You definitely need to bring cash. If you use your card, you get charged commission on withdrawing cash abroad (unless you are with Nationwide etc) which kind of defeats the purpose of getting the best exchange rate. _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! well just got back after a week in the sun, honestly cant see many people coming over to tenerife with the pound in such a state,2 make matters worse all the bars prices ave gone up,beer and food etc,i changed cash up and got 1.23 euro, when i ran out i changed some at a santander cash machine and got 1.08,how bad is that, speaking to a person who works in the bereau de change, she said it will drop as low as 1.10 by the end of the year.i read in the local paper even the looky looky men are going back, things must be getting bad |

I havent seen much change in the prices in bars and restaurants in the last 3 years of living here...
In the supermarkets yes there has been a rise.
it doesnt really effect us living over here with th excgahe rate as we work here, earn in euros and spend in euros. If we return to the UK for holidays then it is actually better for us as we are getting more sterling to our euros.
The euro has been going down for ages....eventually I think it will be 1 pound for 1 euro....not good _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Hi strips,
I have to agree with you, I am also jsut back this week and didnt notice any price changes in the bars, I get the locals rates for drinks anyway where I go as Im there so often and know most of the staff, but in the resturants the menus were the same ones with the same prices as last year...... so no price rises here that I noticed anyway. _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |

In which bars? Generally prices are the same....special offers of a 'pint' for 1 or 1.50 euros at slow times of the day and afterwards it usually depends on whether there's entertainment.
Can we in all fairness expect that prices never go up? Staff do want salary increases, all sorts of other costs rise as well. Most holiday makers expect a yearly salary increase so why not give the same to those that serve them? _________________ .

I can remember a time when it was feared that the pound would equal a dollar and all the doom and gloom at the time. Now the pound is worth almost two dollars. Just because the pound is weakening at the moment it doesn't mean that people will stop holidaying and spending. I've just spent 3 days in the freezing cold UK I paid £22 for PARKING for 3 hours in London!!! You think Tenerife is expensive? 3 Euros for a pint? How much in UK? _________________ .

GLasgow city centre price of a pint around £3 price of a double morgans, vodka etc with draft mixer £3 AND thats in the cheaper places, weatherspoons etc I wouldnt like to think how much in the trendier clubs, and bars are if thats what your into. im out again in Glasgow next week I'll try to take note of the prices, I dont usually notice too much just hand over the cash................ all in all a night out, you probably wouldnt get much change over here from about £60 and that NOT including food.....
but then again they do say that us in Scotland drink more than the southerners so who knows how much in London......
£22 for 3 hrs parking..... bloody hell, I usually pay £1 for 2 hrs and I think thats expensive.......lol _________________ im back in Tenerife soon........ yepeeeeeeeee |
