Thanks Stripps, Just my bro in law gives me savings each week, ( I am banker, lottery runner, bookies runner, cook etc, for the workers on a weekend)) and I normally get it changed, not done it for a while and have a considriable amount for him, just keeping an eye on the rates as it may be better to change over there.

Er, I think you'll find its the same exchange rate everywhere Margaret Laughing

Or did you mean what exact tourist rate the greedy English banks are offering compared to our friendly looky-looky corner shops in Tenerife? Probably a bit more difference.

Usually here they offer 4 points off the official market rate. For those who don't understand the term 'market rate' I mean the official figure quoted each day by central banks. The actual exchange rate you get at the bank swings a few points either side of this starting price depending on whether you are buying or selling.

Today the market rate is 1.2696 Euros to the Pound. In Tenerife you'll probably get offered 1.22 - 1.23 with no additional commission. In England you're unlikely to get offered more than 1.20 and they might try to slap a £2.00 commission on top of that !!

THanks Funky, we normally shop around for the best deals when we are over there.
Over here I normally look between Dawson and Sanderson, Post Office (if you can find one) and Marks and Sparks, at the mo they are all the same, or were last weekend.

The official rate's down to 1.26 today. Some experts are predicting it could go as low as 1.20 or lower (that would equate to about 1.16 at most tourist outlets in the south (and even lower in the U.K. banks). I fear for British tourism here if it does. Everyone will head to Turkey, the U.S. or other cheaper dollar-linked destinations.

The rates are definitely better in Tenerife Dianne. So unless you need any for taxis before you reach the resort or for the first night etc, I would wait until you get here. I think you said you arrive on the 8th? which is a Tuesday, so everywhere should be open that exchanges money.

Or failing that, give me a call and I'll exchange it for you at my 'desperate tourist' rate Laughing
