Thanks guys.....she isn't really letting it get to her, she is dying to move over, she keeps asking why cant we just go now?....and I am tempted too but it makes more sense to stay here and save hard to make sure we have enough money, no point coming and the having to come home coz we've ran out of money after a few months!

Helena and Shiel,
Definately try the link Stripps gave for the pension service. They have plenty of information for moving to an EU member country.
As far as I understand, you can arrange for your state pension to be paid to a bank account in any EU country. Also you do get any increases if you move to an EU country.
If you have not reached state pension age when you move, you can arrange to pay a voluntary contribution until you reach pension age.
It will probably mean your parents will have to keep a current account open in the UK to cover these payments, but will be worth it in the end.
As far as them taking the 5th wheel, I agree it would probably be very costly.
Good luck with your move. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Hi Maryj, They used Stripps' link and got all the info they needed, as for the fifth wheel you're right it would cost thousands to ship it, and as Rob says then they would need to "marticulate" it aswell as the truck, so with all that in mind, it's not going to be worthwhile.
They are now loking into las galettas caravan park, to buy a new mobile home sited there, but I phoned hotspotz and they have said there is an issue with planning and no more homes are allowed on there till thats been sorted out, so they will just need to wait and see.

Helena and Shiel,
Hi again.
We visited Camping Nauta nr Las Galletas 3 years ago. They were in the process of extending the site then, but we have since heard that it is now full.
We liked the site, but decided against living there as we will be retired when we move to Tenerife, and like most caravan parks you need transport as it is out "in the countryside"
We are happily driving now and are both fit and well (i'm 58 and my other half is 59) but when we make the move, we are hoping to find our retirement home and not have to move again, so are looking for a place with nearby shops and the bus service. Might not work out like that but one can try.
Anyway back to the subject - try this site - www.tenerifesun.co.uk
I stumbled on this by accident and found they had some used statics on Camping Nauta up for re-sale.
Also, regarding the 5th wheel, you did not say how big the pick-up is your parents have. We have been in the American car scene and have come across a lot of 5th wheels and they have usually been attached to an American pick-up truck. Either way it is a large outfit for the Tenerife roads. Off the motorways I wouldn't like to meet up with cars coming in the opposite direction on the twisting narrow roads, also they will have problems getting the outfit round some of the bends.
I'm sure the others will agree with me that some of the roads can be pretty scary!
Hope everything works out for you. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Thanks Mary they are having a look on that link just now. Apparently the site is getting extended again with another 200 plots, there is a planing issue at the mo, but should get planing permission in the next year or so. As soon as the planning permission is granted hotspotz will announce it on their website and will be taking orders for new mobile homes to be sited there immediately, so they will be checking progress there regularly.
I think the fifth wheel and truck will be going up for sale after they get this " summer " out of it!!

Planning permission in a year? Don't hold your breath. I'm not a betting man but I would lay any money that it won't happen within a year. _________________ .

Hi Rob, thats what the hotspotz man says!! He told me there is a new mayor, who doesn't like the old mayor, who happens to own the land that caravan park is on, and subsequently he has blocked the planning permission. He can apparently only do this for between two and four years, and it has been one year already. He thinks that it is likely to be no more than two years, so therefore one year from now......if that is not the case then they will need to get back to the drawing board....perhaps look at a second hand caravan already sited, but they seem expensive for their condition compared to the price of a brand spanking one!! Obviously this is because you cant actually get a new one just now!!
On another note my picture has gone awol any ideas what could have happened to it.....I may have accidentally deleted it but I dont think so??
Thanks Rob!

I am so glad that the link was helpful...Only sorry that I could not be more help on the other issues.
If theres anything else, then give me a shout....as I love talking and searching..lol
Keep up the good work though. At least you are trying to find out much as possible before you arrive...some don't even bother, or they get all the information they need and dont use it, then wonder why they are not making a proper life here.. _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

AAW Thanks stripps, the info you gave was more than helpfull!!
A lot of the other questions dont matter now anyway as because of the info we recieved, it has turned out that the fifth wheel and truck will be getting sold.
I'm sure we'll think of more though!!
Just thought of one.........is there much call for car spray painters??
My brother is not amused that we are all heading out to Tenerife, apparently we are abandoning him!!. ......he lives in Holland, we all live in Scotland?! I think its because there will be nowhere for him to stay when he has time of work etc...he is single and doesn't have property.
He is now threatening to move to Tenerife, he says there is no point him being in Holland if we are in Tenerife (I think he's just jealous and cant see green cheese).
Anyway if he does come he would be looking for work in a bodyshop, he also has loads of bar experience and has managerial experience in bars.
Thanks again stripps!!

I assume (maybe wrongly) that he doesn't speak Spanish in which case his spraying job prospects here are extremely low as there are only a couple of sprayshops owned by foreigners.
Bar work..... join the thousands of other Tenerife wannabees. _________________ .

Talking of spray shops Rob.......I may be needing one shortly....do you know where they are? If they are any good? Thanks...
Sorry about that.....I do have to say though that if your brother wants to move over here and do a job like that, then he would have to speak pretty good spanish....Many people forget that because theres loads of us brits lol _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com
