Post subject: Medical Matters Insurance etc. |
|
|
Since we have been here we have taken out private medical insurance, although we know many people who have gone with the state system, and have heard some good and bad stories.
An example, two weeks ago I was suffering severe headaches and blurred vision in one eye. I did not take too much notice thinking the calima (or too much wine lol lol ) was causing the visability problem.
Anyway long story short. Went to my optician on Saturday she immediately referred me to the hospital in Costa Adeje, was seen by the surgeon yesterday, I have a caterract, operation planned for June. Such efficiency and professionalism. Not like my poor Mum in the UK who had to wait nearly three years for her caterract op.
I did have an experience with the Green Clinic (Hospiten Sur) three years ago, two broken ribs and was not impressed at all, this was also on insurance.
Has anyone else any experiences of the medical treatment out here and any recommendations or views etc.
Cheers
from a blurry one eyed Sunny |

Can we assume that your wonderful quick treatment was private and your Mum's was NHS? _________________ .

Yep, you are right there Rob.
Although saying that my sister in the UK has private insurance and has had to wait two months for an initial appointment for the same problem, never mind how long it may take for the operation to take place.
I have nothing but praise (generally) with the medical treatment here in Tenerife.
I love it here |

is not all hospital food inedible, I know from the last time I was in hospital my family brought me food in, also when at the hospital with Victoria when she was having the babies, we were given a "picnic box" (sarni, crisps, fruit and a drink) the only thing edible was the fruit, sarni limp, crisps soft, and drink over warm. The bottles of water we had with us were cooler this was after 5 hours. _________________ Failures don't plan to fail, they fail to plan

Xoaquin was born in the Green Clinic and I was not particularly impressed but then I was not a paying guest!! The staff did not appear to care (even though I spoke Spanish) and a cockroach fell out of the air-con onto the bed while I was in the last stages
Also I visited the A & E department of the Green Clinic with a bad pain in my stomach (later discovered it was an ectopic pregnancy). They sent me home with wind!
I chose to have the ectopic operation in the Hospital de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz and was more impressed. Marcos was in Galicia at the time and had been frantically trying to contact me and a kind Doctor had given his mobile number so Marcos could speak to me when I was coming round after surgery. Not sure how long we talked as I was not completely "with it" but I remember afterwards hearing the Doctor asking if anyone had a charger as the battery was obviously dead!!
Needless to say I shall be heading for the north when the next one decides to make an appearance! _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

getting fatter!
Also have a suspected hernia but need to see a specialist about that in June. The Doctor says they can't do anything about it while I'm pregnant.
Other than that, the hormones being all over the place and lack of memory, I'm fine!! _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Ha Ha Jenny, Victoria suffered from cotton wool brains through her pregnancy. As for the hormones we find a box of Kleenex and hide the knives _________________ Failures don't plan to fail, they fail to plan

We were in Santa Cruz for a few days came back for the appointment with the Surgeon on Thursday to measure me for the lens, appointment at 8am this morning for blood tests and X-rays (chest) don't say anything Rob lol lol
They gave me the X Ray looks like Ihave a good pair of lungs (no Rob say nothing)
Now op for 3.30 pm Thursday am absolutely petrified, but am sure I will get over it. At least I will be able to see properly.
