Post subject: A Dream in the Night |

I have been browsing the forum for awhile and enjoy the read. Lots of great information on the site.
We've given notice on our apartment in Germany and plan to move, probably to Tenerife, in October.
We've lived on Hawaii and in Andalusia, but not been to the Canaries before. I am from America, Kati from Germany.
This may sound a bit odd, but I had a dream last night and wonder if it relates to the island. It could be literal or symbolic, but oftentimes dreams are meaningful.
The setting was a farm community in the mountains. They had fruit orchards or groves.
The community was inviting former members who'd moved away to return for the harvest.
There was more, but my question is - do you know of any organic farming communities on the island? _________________

Hi and welcome to the forum. If there are any organic farms on Tenerife they are likely to be in the north. We have a resident north / flora expert on the forum called Bardofely, who I'm sure will add his thoughts when he sees your question. If anyone knows about this, he will! _________________ Who am I? I will make this day a happy one for I alone can determine what kind of day it will be. |

Yes, there are plenty of farmers growing fruit trees in the north although I can't say I know how many do so organically!
My friends Robbi and Stef in Cueva del Viento have a large finca and they grow organic fruit and veg. There is a shop in Los Silos that sells organic produce too, much of it grown on the land nearby. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Regarding my dream in the night where we were in a community -- it seemed to be an organic farm and was definitely a community.
My first thought was to look for an organic farming community, to see if there was any connection between the dream and where we might stay for awhile or live.
Well, we started questioning that Tenerife was our final destination in the Canaries. Then we found the site of a community on another island. Actually, we were drawn first to the island, then to the community. So we are currently looking to go there. As we live in spontaneity and synchronicity, that can change again. For now, it feels well.
Thank you for the comments! |

Just wondering if it was Finca Luna on La Palma you found? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Hi Bard of Ely,
We are still looking at one on La Gomera, a 'spiritual' community whose name means A Place of Light.
However, we have had experience with communities and know that the vision and ideal they put out to the public is usually not the reality of the life within the community.
And we are independent people, not ones to become dependent in a community with hidden agendas. We are good workers, and service minded, but also know our own worth. We would choose to be where our gifts are appreciated. And being able to back up during off-work hours, and have our own space, is essential and not always to find in community life.
Til now, we have walked away from the various communities we have tested the waters with. Still, we are open to having a mutually positive community experience.
We will look at Finca Luna. Thanks for asking!

Bard of Ely,
I just checked the site of Finca Luna. What I found at finca-luna.com is all in Spanish. Can you tell me any more about the community?

I don't personally know them but I do know they are organised enough to have one of their members, whose name is Stella I think, over here last year going round giving talks on permaculture and showing videos.
I also think they are mainly a pagan group.
I just had a quick look and it is in English as well as Spanish

I checked out the English version and like the mission and values put out by Finca Luna (I have to learn Spanish so I am not so helpless with the native language!)
I've dropped them a note. Thanks, Bard of Ely, for the lead.
We are considering our options. What are the choices for camping on Tenerife? |

There are camp sites here around the island but I don't know how much they charge. There is also a lot of illegal camping but I wouldn't recommend it especially as you are not from the island and it is frowned on by the authorities.
Try searching for camp sites in Tenerife.
I know a couple who are into organic farming and were looking for spiritually-minded people to maybe live on their land. I am not sure what the current sitauation is but two years back they asked me if I could recommend anyone. They had the idea that people could live in tipis and also they had an apartment for rental. It was Granadilla way down south. I will PM you their phone number. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10

Leads are appreciated, and this sounds interesting.
We always look for a win-win situation.
I put the number in my address book, for calling when the time comes.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Gary

Muchos gracias, Jenny!
That is very helpful information.
As I mentioned to the Bard, we are equipping ourselves to be mobile, flexible and creative. Camping is a viable option.
Cheers!

It sounds like you have found your answer to where to stay when you are over and you will have the option of moving around from one site to another. Sounds great to me! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Yes, Bard, camping can be a good portion of our answer to the question of where to stay on Tenerife, esp. if we just winter there. We don't know yet how long our stay will be.
I posted a story of how we started on the Hawaiian islands with tents, sleeping bags and backpacks and a few hundred dollars, and stayed for three years. It is the 'Abundance of the Islands' thread in the Chit Chat forum. |
