Post subject: A species of bromeliad in flower |
|
|
There are many species of bromeilad growing at El Botanico in Puerto de la Cruz and the pineapple is probably the best known species of this family. Here is the flower of one species which was in bloom. Water accumulates in the centre and some types are known as Vase plants because of this and there are even species that have enough water in them for the tadpoles of specialised frogs to develop in them, although there are none here!

Absolutely fantastic close up then. Great job with the photography.
I really enjoy your Flora and Fauna postings and your Northern Tenerife villages / Fiestas and the like.
Thanks Bard, your enthusiasm in these matters is second to none I've met and I love the little insights into these things that otherwise I would never get to see. _________________

Thanks, Andy! An American friend said it's a wonder I haven't been employed by the Tenerife tourist board! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
