OK, so I'm no photographer and there's no way I can match Bard's photo's but I thought I'd post a couple of pics, seeing as the board appears rather quiet tonight. Those of you that live in Tenerife are probably used to seeing these sights all the time (and taking them for granted) but certainly for me seeing these is like...ahhhh! Tenerife
Maybe Bard can give the proper name for these trees? I know they're common but have never really known exactly what they are. I believe if they were not 'pruned' then they would not grow tall.
Personallly I love the fact that you can take a photo almost anytime of the day in Tenerife and get an image of the moon in the photo (well the top photo anyway!)

That's a Washington Palm. They do grow quite tall if left un pruned but they would be much fatter also. _________________ .

I agree with Rob and would add that they grow very easily from seeds and in fact I have far too many little ones. I threw some seeds that I thought had rotted and been attacked by little beetles (many had) on a pot with other stuff in it and it is now full of palm shoots! The trees produce thousands of seeds and it would be easy to grow a forest! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Most Washington Palms are also remarkably hardy. I even had one in my front garden in London. It coped just fine with numerous bouts of snow and frost. I cut the palm leaves when they started to sag and turn brown and it grew upwards quite rapidly. The tree went from a knee-high potted palm to a 4 metre tree in about 8 years. _________________ Legal Solutions both in Tenerife and in England or Wales?
