I think spelling is important on here for two reasons. Firstly, everyone should learn to spell (or perhaps simply type carefully) for their own self-improvement. We're all here to better ourselves, after all.
Secondly, mis-spelt words won't show up in archive searches or on google, so other people won't get to benefit from whatever nugget of information was contained in the mis-spelt post. _________________ Legal Solutions both in Tenerife and in England or Wales? I don't agree because if you can't spell ( for instance ) you're dyslexic , which is now classed as a disability .
Your forum is discriminating against people who can't spell |

I am dyslexic but I take care to try to type correctly ( it delights many when I make mistakes) and generally check over my post before submitting it. I understand that many people cannot be bothered to have the same standards.
When asking for other members for help or information it makes life a lot easier if we're able to read and understand the post immediately instead of having to 'translate' the post into English.
For example the title of this thread and the first post "Is spelling such a bad thing on this forum ?" This did not make sense to me, perhaps you meant "is BAD spelling such a bad thing on this forum"
Perhaps you're referring to our forum guidelines whereby we ask members not to use textspeak. The answer by Tenerifesolicitors covers the main reason..... mis-spelt words won't show up in archive searches or on google, so other people won't get to benefit from whatever nugget of information was contained in the mis-spelt post. There's also the fact that a lot of the older generations do not readily understand it!
As for your comment "Your forum is discriminating against people who can't spell"
I cannot agree with you, we do not ban members who cannot spell....even though spellcheck is available on all but the most outdated computers. We simply ask members not to use 'textspeak'. _________________ .

My spelling is awful, I know that. However if I am unsure I simply use spell check in word and copy and paste it into my post.
Discrimination !!!!! For goodness sake, are you serious? I think you have been watching to many 'where theres blame theres a claim ads'.
You will be telling us next its a breach of human rights. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

the forum does not discriminate against people, make light of any mistakes (especially when Rob makes one ) I would like to say that nobody on the forum would intentionally go out to hurt or embarrass anybody.
And personally if I make an error so what! does this face look bothered

By using Firefox, everything I type gets spell-checked automatically so all I have to do is look for red lines before I click Submit!! _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

But red sonja, if you review the offending posts on this forum in general (and not necessarily yours), you'll see that the main problem is not simply forum members' spelling, but their grammar.
Dyslexia is a condition whereby sufferers confuse the order of words or miss out certain letters. This condition is NOT to be confused with the millions of people who simply never learnt how to spell correctly or use words in correct context in the first place.
e.g. "I'm going to help them carry THERE (their) shopping home."
"I should OF gone to the party (I should have gone to the party)."
"Can you be a little more PACIFIC (Specific)"
The above examples are NOT signs of dyslexia. A teacher friend of mine believes that the vast majority of people claiming to be dyslexic are simply confusing the condition with a blatant lack of education, or worse still, using it as an excuse to get more time in exams etc.
But hey, I might be wrong, maybe you're all Grammalexic too? Give it a year and I'm sure someone will add that condition to the disabled list too...
In the meantime, if you are really dyslexic, why not follow Rob and Jenny's advice instead of using political correctness to criticise a forum that has been running like clockwork for many years? _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great!
