If you read my quote properly it say ... If for instance your dyslexic . Not necessarily referring to me.
I do know what the condition is and certainly don't confuse it with grammar
I simply asked a question about spelling and put my view on the subject . I thought that's what THE rants section was all about |

Of course, anyone is allowed to rant or ask a question. Unfortunately I could not understand what you meant by "Is SPELLING such a bad thing" It doesn't mean anything to me. Did you mean "Is bad spelling such a bad thing"? I did post and ask what you meant but you didn't reply.
I don't think that anyone took the inference that you were dyslexic. _________________ .

I'm not sure to which of Funky's posts you are referring .... perhaps this one?
I think spelling is important on here for two reasons. Firstly, everyone should learn to spell (or perhaps simply type carefully) for their own self-improvement. We're all here to better ourselves, after all. Very Happy
Secondly, mis-spelt words won't show up in archive searches or on google, so other people won't get to benefit from whatever nugget of information was contained in the mis-spelt post.
If so, then I must say that I'm in total agreement with him, particularly with this part.....

I believe in taking pride in trying to do everything to the best of my abilities and do not accept slipshod work from myself or my staff.
As for putting single mothers in asylums I think that perhaps you're referring to the old practice of putting them into 'workhouses' if they had no family support. While not agreeing to the conditions that were found in these places I do believe that the handouts and housing that are given to single mothers could be used much more effectively. Many young girls see it as an easy option to obtain their own housing and living expenses for minimal effort on their part.
HOWLS of protest expected. _________________ .

Do you have a sense of humour at all , to realise when a joke is being made .
Anyway I do agree totally with you about the hand outs and housing not only for single mothers but dole dossers as well . |

That doesn't sound like a joke to me. It sounded more like Communist, Nanny State, Nu-Leehbur propagandist rhetoric to me.
Or am I just joking too......? _________________ My Paranoia-Management Therapy is going great! Now they're only watching me half the time.... |

I have to say that spelling is not a bad thing, and i am the worst for typo's when typing on a keyboard...unless i go back through and read what i have written i can always know that there will be at least 10 mistakes via typo's as well as a few spelling mistakes.
I have found out that this site is very good with spelling so i am trying my very hardest to be a bright little bunny . Not sure if i am doing as well as i hoped yet.
Oh and what is so bad about typing small i's rather than cappital ones??

i agree about the i's.
my old computer used to put in the capitals automatically but this new one doesn't seem to.
and i'm too lazy to interrupt my flow to do it.
that's my excuse anyway.
at least i do spell most words correctly. |

I've come to the conclusion that it's generally accepted nowadays to not worry about doing everything well (a job that's worth doing is a job that's worth doing well) e.g. reading a post, e-mail or letter through to check that there are no mistakes. However as an employer it sends me the message that this person doesn't care about doing a good job he/she only cares about getting a wage packet at the end of each week/month. As my Mum taught me....you never know who is watching. There may be a prospective employer, who likes diligent staff, reading your posts!
I'm not 'getting at' anyone in particular just stating my opinion as an employer (again). _________________ .

I'm afraid I also have to agree with Rob on this one. I also receive a large number of C.V.s, (largely unsolicited I might add). In my case, these are people looking for LEGAL SECRETARIAL, PARALEGAL or even LAWYER vacancies, i.e. vacancies requiring a high level of literacy to write in complex grammar with legal jargon. However, many are littered with spelling mistakes and atrocious grammar throughout the covering letters/emails and amazingly, even in the C.V. itself !!
The fact is that these things ARE important and have been important for hundreds of years. They are a sign of intelligence, culture and above all, BRITISHNESS. Enough of us complain about immigrants who come to the U.K. and won't learn the language or who won't integrate. Makes us rather hypocritical, doesn't it.
So for those of you who try to pretend that an inability to read, write or spell properly is perfectly normal, acceptable and nothing to lose a moment's sleep about, then best of luck finding white collar employment. In the meantime, I'll carry on filing your C.V.s in the small circular mesh 'filing cabinet' next to my chair _________________ Legal Solutions both in Tenerife and in England or Wales?
