Post subject: Looking for cheap place to rent in rural tenerife for 1month |
|
|
Hi there
Im wondering if anyone could help me please Im pondering moving to tenerife to live, but would like to first check out the island for a few weeks to get to know the place before thinking of relocating.
Id be most interested in renting a place for about 1 month for 2 people, starting in mid-late October, in a nice rural area of the island. Id also be interested in growing my own food if i move, if anyone has any information on that
I dont have much spare money right now, so hopinh to find a place as cheap as possible!
Is there native islanders/ Spanish speakers who would have good prices for letting either a room or two in their house, or else a small property they might have? this way i might be able to escape the big costs of rent that holiday agents charge etc.
Any help tremendously appreciated
thank you!

Hi, do a search for casa rurales and you'll find plenty BUT they are generally more expensive than a cheap studio in the main tourist areas. Stay clear of the school half term if you want cheap flights. _________________ .

Hi Owen and welcome to the forum. I recommend you find yourself a cheap package deal with a travel agent and then take a look once you're here for more permanent accommodation.
Have you been to Tenerife before? If so, which areas do you like? When you say rural, do you mean rural in the south or up north? If you are thinking of working here, do you speak any Spanish? And if you want to work here then, depending on what sort of job you will be looking for, you will probably need to be within traveling distance of the popular southern resorts. Very often what you save on rent by living further afield, you pay out on travelling to and from work/entertainment. But it will all depend on your situation.
Let us know a bit more about what you want to do and hopefully we can help more. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Post subject: more info on the trip |
|

Hi here I only saw your replies now. Was waiting for an e mail notification
Thanks very much for your info guys.
During my one month trip starting near the end of Oct, I dont plan on working. It's a mixture of a holiday with a friend and also to find out if there is any particular place or island i like most, in which case i may even move to live.
I wouldnt like to live in a touristy area, and with my job at the moment, i can pretty much get by by working on the internet. That said, in the near future, id be interested in also having a day time job maybe working at a organic farmers market if there are any on any of the canary islands.
may i ask, is it possible to to grow your own fruit+vegetables on any of the canary islands? ie is the soil, growing conditions suitable? id be very interested also in growing tropical fruits such as papaya, mango, banana, coconut(if possible), melon or pineapple, along with more standard fruits too.
I heard the north of tenerife is less touristy, greener, a little cooler and a little wetter. for someone who would prefer a place to be a little quieter and less touristy with more nature/less built up, and have home food growing plans, is there any island or place in tenerife where you would recommend? if you could even recommend a town/place on tenerife, be it north or south, that would escape the biggest tourist destinations and be a mix of unspoilt land and built town, that would fantastic!
ive actually already booked a flight at this stage and have looked on a very good website for finding cheap accommodation : mundoanuncio
i can speak spanish, not fluent but can speak a fair bit
look forward to your replies :0)
thanks again! |

Of course we grow veg in the Canary Islands! Not coconuts though, you can grow two and even three crops of potatoes a year depending on the area. Your main problems are very expensive land and very (if its available) expensive water.
It sounds as though you should be looking at either the North or perhaps the West of the Island. _________________ .

There are plenty of non-touristy towns/villages in the north. Take a look at a map of the island and you will see how many. We cannot choose one for you...you could then blame us if it wasn't what you were looking for
By the way, good for you for speaking Spanish. It will make your life much easier, especially in the north where you will find a lot less people who speak English. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17
