Hi and welcome to the forum.
Good luck with you job hunting, you have your sister and her family to help you along the way so you should be OK.
I don't know your big sister personally, but from her posts on here, she seems a great person to me.
I would say that about someone who shares the same name with me, wouldn't I _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

heehee.....Mary, of course I am great...
And what a fabulous name we both share. Its very strange nowadays to find another Mary. It is a very old fashioned name. When i was a child and went to family parties and reunions, I was the youngest Mary there....lol the rest were all over 65!!!!!.....
I think they should bring back old fashioned names.... _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Funny enough Mary......I tend to get called Maria by a lot of the spanish. Even my friends call me Maria.
The english obviously call me Mary, but they also make up silly names and I tend to be called Mare by a certain memeber of the forum who hasn't been around much lately lol...
I dont mind being called Maria though its actually quite nice lol.
Its not so good at christmas though as the jokes....(same every year) come flowing around...lol _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

The locals always translate names into Spanish, to them I'm always Roberto, they'll never use Rob. I had a girlfriend called Clare who used to get sooooo annoyed when they translated her name to Clara. _________________ .

Hi Beth,
I live in England (Derbyshire, North Midlands) but we are planning to move to Teneife, hopefully at the end of next year.
For the last few years we have visited the Island twice each year, Jan/Feb and July.
So I suppose we can be considered regular visitors, but can't wait to live on the island. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Ah, Marie or Maria sounds good, but I have also been called Mare by some people here and i don't like that either. Also I agree about the Christmas jokes...lol
I think I will become a Maria. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

I work with a Robert who is always known as Rob. Rob suits him, but if anyone ever calls him Robert is doesn't sound right, I think you you are a Rob but not a Robert!
Surely Rob would be easier to use than Roberto.
I can see why Clare did not like Clara, Clare sounds so much better. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Surely Rob would be easier to use than Roberto. ................. We tend to shorten names when being familiar...Robert - Rob, Jonathon - John, Michael - Mike etc. whereas the Spanish usually make the name longer Tomas - Tomasito, Carmen - Carmencita etc. _________________ .

So from now on we should call everyone by their spanish alternative ..lol
Roberto....
I actually like the name Clara so if I was a clare it wouldn't be to much of a problem for me.
Our charlie though, he is 5 and very blonde. At school the teachers call him 'rubio' which literally means blonde...lol he thinks it is very funny and always touches his hair when called... _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com
