Post subject: Microsoft Office Word doing a bad job of selling itself |
|
|
On my new PC I have had to activate the free trial of Microsoft Office Word 2007 and it had been working until today admittedly in Spanish which hasn't made it easy. Now suddenly it keeps opening a security window and asking me do I want to activate it and if I say yes I have to post the key I was given. Unfortunately after this I am still unable to do anything at all on the site apart from close it. This takes me back to square one and I get asked for the key again if I want to continue.
I cannot find any way of changing the site to English if I go to any of the help links.
Considering I only want Word and Word Count I find the whole business very frustrating. I am using WordPad but it has no word count and I know no way of getting one.
Of course I also get the option of buying it but after this terrible performance I am not at all impressed! I just wish I hadn't lost Word! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Hi Bard, Have you tried OpenOffice.org They have there own version or Microsoft works but its free. Its supposed to have all that works has, you just download the bits you want and try to learn where all the icons are and what they do. Its compatible with Microsoft, Adobe etc only difference is you don't pay the big American monster for the privilege.
I tried it once and it seems OK just difficult when your used to one system. A mate of mine uses it all the time and raves about it. |

Thanks for that! I will go and get it I think! I have just about had enough of this crap. I have been on the Microsoft site and cannot find my problem listed and I have done all that I was supposed to do but it simply won't work even though I have a key number. It's supposed to be a 60 day free trail and I have had just over a week!
Update: I have it and it looks ideal for my purposes! Big THANKS for this Leahcim! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I'm a little confused here Bard.
You say MS Office asks for the key but after that you are unable to do anything except purchase it.
A 60 day free trial means you have not purchased it, you are on a '60 day free trial' if you have a valid MS office 2007 key, in my experience, it will be accepted; the trial ended and a full version of Office 2007 will be available (without the nagging)
Open Office is OK, it's a little 'less pretty' than the MS option but as Leahcim says completely free, being released under the LGPL (lesser General Public Licence) licence. _________________

The key was accepted when I first took advantage of the 60 day trial and I assumed all was fine and it was until yesterday when I went to open it a window came up that asked for the key which I had to dig out from my emails. Having submitted it again MS Office loaded on a blank Word page with my cursor on it but all the options were not working and I could not type or paste anything on there. All I could do was close and start again when I was asked to repeat the process. It has had my key about 6 times and after that I lost my patience and gave up! Surely if it was accepted the first time over a week ago it shouldn't be doing this?
Just tried again and to give you exactly how the window is headed:
Assistente para la activacion de Microsoft Office
The only options available to click are Convertir, Ayuda and Cancelar. Convertir asks for the key. I don't want to cancel and help isn't any! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

i.e. it asks for an activation key you supply a 60 day one so it loads with no features since it is not a valid 'full' key, which is what it now expects.

Well if that's the case I am stuck! But it does appear so! 60 days in a week! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

A letter of complaint threatening Microsoft with the ombudsman seems to be in order. _________________ .
