Have just returned from 2 weeks staying with a friend in Las Americas and had such a FANTASTIC time. I would love to move out there - I woud love to sing While I was there plenty of people told me I could make money singing or compare-ing but I know its not that easy so for now I am browsing and researching but you never know I may turn up out of the blue one day! Plus I wouldn't mind finding the fine fine fine PR I found down on Veronicas
Meanwhile I have begun spanish lessons - at least when I do get out there I will have a better chance of getting an office job if singing is impossible........
Sorry my name is Angell and I'm 23 years old |

Hi Angell and welcome to our forum, if you're good there's work for professional singers here (watch the x factor, they all think they're good!) the work is all year round although you do get some quieter periods so if you start in the summer say you'll need to save some cash for the quieter times untill xmas new year. The best most reliable acts earn money all year round.
Being a good singer is only a small part of your act. You must be able to interact with the audience, a happy audience buys more drinks which helps the bar owner to pay YOU. Work on having a complete polished act that you can demonstrate, remember you're not a star until other people think so and get used to having to make do with whatever space and equipment you're provided with, most bars want space for customers not performers.
GOOD LUCK |

Hi Rob
Thanks for that - I'm not naive enough to believe that I would be a star as soon as I opened my mouth I am willing to work for it. I have a friend who lives out there who has offered me her couch until I get on my feet - then happy to take any work (Bar etc....) until my act is fully polished. I wouldn't rush it. She is also a singer so we may put a double act together for special occasions too
Thansk for the advice I'll let you know if I get anywhere |

Wish me luck and maybe I'll meet some of you when i get out there |

Hi angell. Good luck with your singing, but I suspect that you will need another job for some time.
I know a singer who is young, good looking, works an audience well, has many years experience on the Tenerife circuit and has a tremendous voice. In the summer he came second in a televised singing contest here in Puerto.
The money he gets for his gigs is pitiful. I'm advised that there are many males singing on the island, so competition is keen. There aren't so many females, so maybe you will have a better chance of getting work and being paid more.
Go for it and above all ENJOY! _________________ Don't follow the 'MySpaceTenerife' link under my avatar because you will learn nothing about me.

Seagull thanks for the advice - i don't think I was really expecting to earn a living doin it anyway (at least not to begin with) I have my friends who live out there keeping eyes and ears open for bar jobs near to the apt for me to get me started so I should be ok
Pablo - who needs an excuse to go to the pub? The pub is an excuse to go to the pub no? Hmmmm it seems you need some lessons in the way of partying like an angell When do you arrive?
I'll let you all know if I do manage to get a gig and maybe you could come meet up - an excuse for a forum get together (drinking sesh ) |

You'll have to come down Flicks, Amarilla Bay, Angell, and do a guest spot on the Sunday afternoon cabaret and Alondras Park is another bar here in Silencio you could try. You can meet a lot of performers there too.
A lot of successful acts here gets gigs in lots of different bars so they have money coming in from each one and it is also possible to get more than 1 gig on the same night (at different times of course! ) _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
