As i have stated on other threads on this forum we are thinking of moving out but obviously have doubts but i suppose we wouldnt be normal if we didnt having 4 kids i suppose is the main one as you dont know if they will settle or not but hope they would love it ! i know i would love it and so would the wife . we run a company in the uk which we can keep going through staff that work for us and we can rent our house out here which means if anything should go wrong we would have something to come back to.... just wondered what you lot who do live in tenerife thought when you first decided to move out and how different it was when you realised you were there ! if we move out i will probarbly buy a bar to run with my wife and oldest son who could help just want an incite into what your dreams were and whether it has lived up to you expectations ?

I moved here 20 years ago and have done all sorts of things. Back then we weren't in the EEC and it was difficult. Much simpler now but still far from easy especially if you don't speak the language. Personally I would never buy a bar, working all hours indoors in a hot country is not why I came here. As with most people I came for the climate and want the opportunity to enjoy it, count the number of bars in say Los Cristianos divide by the number of tourists plus a few residents and see how many tourists there are for each bar, assuming that they're all going to be spending hours and hours of their holiday drinking. Having said that there are people who genuinely enjoy spending every waking hour behind a bar waiting for or chatting to customers. With 4 kids how much time will you have for them?

My husband and I came out here with our 3 children for the climate and pace of life compared to UK.

We were both working all hours of the day and night as i was a bar manager for 2 years. We lived above the bar so everytime something went wrong i had to go down stairs to sort it out. I hardly had any time for myself let alone my children. They came home form school and i had about 3 hours between shifts to do homework, cook dinner and have 'quality time' with the family. I loved my job and loved the customers, chatting and making new friends but i missed my family lol.

As soon as we moved out here it was fabulous. I have spent so much more time with the children and we do more together now as a family, we really do get 'quality time' now.

It was hard at first because you miss what you are used to. Now i wouldnt go back to UK to live again. Life here is for me and mine is brilliant, we definately made the right decision.

I moved here about 7 years ago alone, then a few friends came over too. Met my husband to be, bought an apartment, had a child and have never looked back. Certainly wouldn't consider living in the UK again.

You can do so much more here with children too: with the good weather you can always (except on the odd day) got to the beach, pool, park, for walks, bike rides etc etc. You can also take them out to dinner in the evening and won't get frowned upon by the locals/staff for being in a bar/restaurant with children. Life is great here and those who don't agree are definitely not making the best of it.

Go for it - you're unlikely to regret it!

Thanks for your comments they are much appreciated the reason behind the bar is to work 7am till 6pm just do breakfasts and lunches not wanting to work 24 hours a day in the uk i have a transport brokering company but cant see it working over there have a hgv but not driven for years and wouldnt fancy it over there either... reasons for moving are endless ... this country is pathetic nowadays our fore father must be turning in thier graves. just want out and love tenerife i know it isnt the same as going n holiday but reading all your comments i know my mind is deffo made up just need to get to grips with other things that need sorting got the man from the estate agent coming on friday to see what the house is worth to rent out then over there in 4 weeks to find a house all being well

A great idea but with the price that one can charge for breakfast or lunch (due to the competition) Can you pay the rent, overheads AND salary for yourself? I don't know of a bar that will manage that unless you have a large amount of capital, even then I'd invest the capital in something else. It all depends on whether you want to run a bar/cafe for fun or profit. Please don't take this as criticism but as an honest opinion, I've been here a long time and know that for most people coming here and needing to earn a living the first thought is to have a bar or cafe.

I know where your coming from . The good thing is that ill still be getting a wage from the business in the uk aswell which will obviously help out fiancially was also thinking of setting a company up that can do transfers with a 7 seater as when we come out we have to get 2 taxis wich can cost 40 euro.With a 7 seater you can just get 1 vehicle

If you're looking for a niche in the market, then a children's shoe shop is needed. As I stated in previous post, I'd like a comission for my idea! Wink

Thanks but my sister is coming over soon and bringing me 3 pairs from Clarks! I drew around my son's foot and measured around the largest part, sent the paper home with my parents who were out last month then Clarks estimated his shoe size. I am getting two of the same shoe in different sizes and can send whichever one I don't want back (1 month max).

No I don't work for Clarks or know anyone who does but they really are good quality shoes!
