I do what animal rights work I can and had I enough money and my own place I would love to have an animal sanctuary. I am increasingly horrified and saddened by the incredible amount of the most sickening and barbaric cruelty that goes on day after day. As I type this thousands of baby seals are being butchered, dogs and cats skinned alive, countless thousands of animals subjected to pointless and excruciatingly painful experiments, even more dogs and cats are being killed for the crime of being alive and unwanted, perfectly healthy horses are being killed for meat and because they are no longer of any use and worldwide horrible abuse of domestic animals continues!

Tenerife is just as bad as anywhere else and both Apollo and myself have lost dear cats that have been poisoned!

In the UK I have some friends called Mary Alice and Chris Pollard who run a sanctuary and who campaign tirelessly day in day out and another friend Maria Daines who is an excellent singer-songwriter with a song getting a lot of attention called I Am the Owner of this Coat and another called Andrew (about the death of a Moon Bear who has become an animal hero).

Bard i am with you on this. I totally disagree with any sort of cruelty to animals. There definately is no need of it anywhere in the world.

Where I used to work a dog used to hang around the office (presume he was another that had been taken on and not cared for). We used to take food to the office for him - he was a really loving creature. After a few weeks he was poisened and one of our staff members found him in the entrance to the building next door. It was horrible. I don't understand some people.

You'd need a lot of money to help all the badly treated/abandoned animals here. It's such a shame but there are at least some places that help.

I met Natalie the partner of Marcos who is Director of Don Piso here and she told me. She is into animal rights and they live near here. I had found some feral kittens and mother earlier on and ended up showing her where they are and also telling her about what I know about why the Mariposario del Drago closed and about all the butterflies that died.

I would love to be involved with an animal shelter/sanctuary here but not sure where I'd start or find the time. Perhaps this will be something for the future?
