Post subject: Help for our new place! |
|
|
Hi folks I hope this will grow to be a good place for me to gain infomation for our apartment. I have been coming to "the jewel of the north" since I was a wee boy in 1976 and have noticed many changes in the culture and type of people (tourists) that have been visiting Puerto. Maybe I'm getting a little older now but I enjoy the culture and relaxed way of life in the north and After many years we have taken the plunge and picked up a small apartment. This is where my list of questions will begin
We have to do a fair bit of renovation to the apartment as it has been neglected for many years, but I guess thats half the fun
1. Ikea do they do deliveries like in the UK and if so does anyone know how it is to Puerto.
2. We will be looking to replace the kitchen and bathroom, kitchen I guess will come from Ikea but not sure if they of bathrooms ?
3. Bathroom store where you can view address and web site link would be handy if they exist?
4. New patio doors suppliers and website would be great.
5. Skip hire names and addresses of local companies.
6. Mirror sliding doors for bedroom wardrobes, names and webside/address.
7. White goods i.e. fridge / washing machine etc any big eletrical retailers like spanish equivelant of comet, again name / website / address.
8. Van hire I guess this can be done but companies may be limited.
Having just joined but read a few posts the site seems to be very informative, and hopefully people won't get to hacked off with me asking loads of questions! I think its always better to learn from people who have used the companies or have the knowledge. Thanks in advance for your help..... |

hello there....
ok Ikea.......they do delliver yes...and they are up in La Laguna near Al campo. Depending on what you depends on time span.....my sister gad some cabinets and they took a couple of days.
White goods.....Al Campo again have things like this and so does Carrefore, also i know of a few more shops down here in the south.
Kitchen and bathroom things can be got in Ikea but not all of it i don't think.
The companies down south here that do furniture and things like that will most likely deliver up the north, but i also think there should be places up there.
I am sorry that i can help more but i will try and do a little search on the net for you.
Our main 'up north' person is away at present, but some of the others on here should be able to help.
Maybe check out the directory on the forum ......they may have some places in there. _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

| Great folks and thanks for the info, as I remember from a time back is Al Campo next to or close to Ikea? also where is Carrefore ? it would seem that most people are staying in the south and I guess most of the companies are based there to cater for the demand. Not sure what percentage of people who use this site are from the north but would be really handy to learn of their experiences of dealing local trade folks. Am I right in guessing the moderator for the North section is away? and if so does anyone know for how long as I guess he will be the best person to oick ihs brains.... thanks for all your help so far. |

| Yes, Alcampo is next to Ikea. There is also Leroy Merlin up there, a huge DIY store. Carrefour is at Añaza on the motorway from Santa Cruz towards the south. As Stripps says the person you need is away - Tenerife Seagull, but perhaps you could send him a PM - he may check it. Bard may also be able to help. |

I am up in the north and on my way to Puerto this afternoon but can't help I'm afraid because everything I buy I carry here myself or its small enough to go by mail and I have no experience with services here apart from Telefonica who were excellent and sorted out a new phone and Internet in days. _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Isn't there an Alcampo in Puerto de la Cruz or Orotava? I'm sure someone mentioned it to me the other week... yes! Here it is... just found this info on the www.alcampo.es website :
Pologono de San Jerónimo
La Oratava
Open 9am - 10pm
Tel: 922 326363
And HERE's a map.
It'll be a lot closer to you than the La Laguna branch. _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

We have to do a fair bit of renovation to the apartment as it has been neglected for many years, but I guess thats half the fun
1. Ikea do they do deliveries like in the UK and if so does anyone know how it is to Puerto. They advertise same day service
2. We will be looking to replace the kitchen and bathroom, kitchen I guess will come from Ikea but not sure if they of bathrooms ? Kitchens, visit Juan Bordon in Taco, they have a big display and are standard size , ikea are not.
3. Bathroom store where you can view address and web site link would be handy if they exist? Leroy Merlin next to Ikea or Baño barato near Ikea old showroom.
4. New patio doors suppliers and website would be great. See meridian windows in our directory upvc and aluminium, they have a place in Puerto and are english, Please tell them you came via us. lol
5. Skip hire names and addresses of local companies.
6. Mirror sliding doors for bedroom wardrobes, names and webside/address. Again Juan Bordon (upstairs) or Leroy Merlin
7. White goods i.e. fridge / washing machine etc any big eletrical retailers like spanish equivelant of comet, again name / website / address. Al campo, next to Ikea
8. Van hire I guess this can be done but companies may be limited.

Thanks for that Rob some good info to get me started. Flights from Scotland are not proving that cheap for Sep/Oct always a problem unless your travelling from England such is the price to pay for living in "God's country" but trawling a few companies but looks loke globespan will be our cheapest option at £197 each. Does anyone know when the moderator Seagull is back? I guess with him actually living in Puerto he will be the best bet for local knowledge, is anyone else on the forum living in Puerto and have been for a reasonable lenth of time? |

Have you tried http://www.sun4free.com/ and click on tenerife travel shop banner for flights? Seagull is not well at the moment and we have no other Puerto residents unfortunately. _________________ .
