Post subject: Breadmaking Machine yeast...? |
|
|
My mum has recently been out and brought me a breadmaker (bless her).
I have asked around at the local shops and found out that the flour you use for breadmaking is 'Harina de Trigo Simple'... for anyone that wondered...
However, I've only got one packet of yeast left, so I need to get some pretty sharpish.
I asked in the local Panderia, but they either wouldn't sell any to me (probably because they want you to buy their bread rather than make your own) or they had the wrong type of yeast... as I think it has to be the dried stuff for breadmakers....
Does anyone know where I can get hold of some? Preferably not as far as Iceland, as that's like a journey half way round the Island for me and I'm sure the Spanish must sell it somewhere!!!
Spanish for 'yeast' is 'levadura' if anyone's interested... _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

I used to buy mine in La Camella at the supermarket next door to the ferreteria. I can't think of the name but it's near the petrol station. I also used to buy stone ground brown flour there. _________________ .

Thanks for the offer, but I need it a bit quicker than that... I'm on my last sachet and I'm making a loaf every 2 days at the moment!!! _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

Aye... but I said I preferably didn't want to go as far as Iceland originally, as it's like driving half way round the island for me, and I'm sure the Spanish must make bread too, as they have breadmaking machines! Iceland also seems a bit overpriced in my opinion. It's ok for English stuff you just can't get anywhere else, but I would never use it for everyday stuff. _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

So you never pass Las Chaferias?
A box of 10 sachets costs €2.99 which will do 20 loaves. Or a tin costs €3.50 and will do over 60 loaves. |

Rarely pass las Chafiras these days no!!! I only usually get as far as Cristianos for most things I need to do, and that's usually at 11pm at night if I'm picking the bloke up from work. TBH, I rarely get past Guia de Isora!
60 loaves out of a tin of the stuff though... that sounds ok and may be worth a trip to stock up on it.
I've always wanted a breadmaker and now I have one, I'm going a bit mental with it!
Must go get me some sun-dried tomatoes... ooh, and pine nuts... Could do with a few recipes...
I tried to make olive bread in my gran's machine when I was back in the UK but it kept coming out flat. Is there any special 'hints' you need to know before you can start improvising? I'd hate to have to stick to the exact recipes... _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |
