Post subject: Work for Engineers |

| Hi my husband is an Electrical Engineer, qualified etc. Where would he start to look for work? Is that a Power Plant on the coast next to the TF1 up by Santa Cruz? Any advice greatly received. |

| hi and welcome, yes I assume you're talking about Candelaria or on the coast near Abades. If your husband wants a job in either he'll need to have spanish qualifications and speak fluent spanish and the if he's not spanish chances are not much better than nil. How's that for a bucket of cold water on your aspirations? Sorry but we believe in giving honest straight forward opinions. He would find it easier to work self employed as a house or industrial sparks. |

| We were told that he would need Spanish Qualifications to work as an electrician ie wiring houses etc. is that true? I take it that being self employed is the only answere. A bit of a joke when you see some of the wiring out there, you take your life in your hands turning on some toilet ight switches. |

To be able to issue 'bulletins' (certificates of safety) he would need spanish qualifications but many foreigners and spanish complete the work and then pay a qualified man to check it out and issue the cert. Self employment is always the answer if you're serious about living here. Imagine that you were already living here and some stranger from the uk who knew nothing of the systems etc wanted a job from you. What would your reactions be? A good 'sparks' will find work here.
Couldn't agree more with you about standards but new work has to be up to scratch. |
