Hi Smiler and welcome from me to
I lived in Los Cristianos for a while when I first got here and loved it. It's a great place to live and I only moved away as I couldn't afford to buy an apartment there! I planned to stay in Tenerife just one year to learn Spanish and then move on to "real" Spain and yet I'm 7 years on and I'm still here, with an apartment, a Spanish hubbie and a 4 year-old son! Can't be that bad!
I also have my fingers crossed for you! |

Hi All,
and thanks again for the warm welcomes its lovely to have support from you guys and I have got a great feeling that I already have a foot on the island.
Being from Yorkshire has its posititves..(like when all else fails bring out the northern charm LoL) but having traveled a lot its been hard to try and "fit" back in.
Jenny...I can only hope I have the same luck as you in finding a "Spanish teacher"..LoL ...!!!
The weather is certainly making my transition easy...I have the heaters on today its so cold!!
felling aprehensive about tomorrow (handing my notice in) and also telling my flatemate I am moving out... but I have traveld enough and met so many amazing people on my travels that I KNOW things will work out for me.
I would love to come along to the meets..but dont think I will make the August one as I have looked at teh flights and think i will be there on the 29th..but I intend to be a regular here.I know it will take some adjusting but I am also really determined to finally learn another language and this is my chance....
I was reading through some of posts, about trying to immerse into local culture to pick up spanish...any tips?
Also I wondering about transport...I absolutley want to see and do as much as I can to really enjoy the island...will I need transport or are the buses ok??
sooo excited today.. _________________ Smile and make someone's day |

there are plenty of cheap flights on the 25th, friends of mine are coming then. Local buses are good, you can buy a 'bono' discount card if you're going to use them often, saves around a third of the price. I thought that a thirty something stepping straight into a great job would have her sights set on a little convertible??? _________________ .

Hi again Smiler, expect you are full of different feelings today, excited, apprehensive etc, but am sure you are making the right move. If you are going to live LC there are plenty of buses but to be truthful we have found generally having a car is the best bet. Will be lovely to chat more and would be great to hear how things progress with you, from handing in your notice to job/flatmate and the build up to your move. Have you got you job confirmation in writing yet. What is it you are doing, either missed your reply or maybe you didn't reply. Cheers Sunny |

lol Rob. bring on the convertable one day maybe...
Yes....good job but not great money but its the lifestyle I am coming over for...and having lived the "gypsy" lifestyle i have learned to travel light, it will just be me and my cheap clothes
hmmm I had a look on Ryanair, thomson fly and Jet2 came up the best at £50 inc all tax on the tuesday..(as I am flying from Leeds Bradford) maybe I should have another look??
Maybe I should find myself a spanish teacher who has convertable..

hi Sunny...lol we posted at the just about the same time there !!
job offer should be with me on email very soon.. I text my boss and asked him to email me a confirmation as I would be handing in my notice ..he was absolutley fine about it so it should be here within the next few hours, will be working in media and PR but I think I more excited about coming over..(and meeting you all now as well:) )
Ok, so a car sounds like an option in the long term..thats great, however in the short-term what about a bike (mo-ped) I know that they are not the safest of options but perhaps just a cheaper option to car till I get myself organised. I am not coming over with lots of funds to be honest

Hi Smiler, yes loads of people have mopeds out here and as you said they are a much cheaper option. Must admit has taken a long while for me to start driving here should have just taken the bull by the horns, but am driving now but took a few months. Keep in touch

I have found out though that I am no where near los Cristianos..LoL , but will be living in Puerto Santiago near Los Giantis...I have done some research and although it looks quieter there still seems to be lots to do and I intend to get out and about to meet people, but any tips on this area would be great...

Hmm, not many companies in Puerto Santiago or are you going to be working in Los Gigantes? Can you tell us what you're going to be doing yet? _________________ .

Good idea
I borrowed a moped from my previous boss when I started working "out-of-town" and it was useful and very cheap to run. Then bought myself a Renault 5 until it gave up on me and now have a "sunbaked" (as Rob so politely puts it!) Seat Ibiza, basically the paint's metallic layer has peeled off
Anyways keep us all posted (we are such a nosey bunch ) and if you need any more help then please ask.
