| Anyone who knows the schedule for the carnival 2007? Particularly interested in Puerto de la Cruz. |

The carnival starts with the election of the carnival queen (23 February), the inaugural cabalgata or procession following on the Saturday (25 February). On the Thursday after Ash Wednesday (1 March), the beginning of Lent, the burial of the sardine takes place, followed by the main cabalgata and huge procession on the Saturday (4 March). It culminates in the Domingo de Piñata on Sunday (5 March) with more carnival parades, costume contests and an Afro-Cuban tradition of beating a wooden replica of a cobra with a stick to the infectious tunes of Latin melodies.

Just been given the dates for when my children are off school during carnival week..lol
Monday 19th february through to friday 23rd. Looks like I may go back to UK for a few days as it gets pretty busy here...lol
Does anyone actually go to any of the fiestas???
We missed them all this year for some reason.

Do you mean fiestas or carnival Stripps?
We have been to various fiestas and most only have fireworks at the end so you could leave before them.
Carnival is brilliant. Before I had Xoaquin we used to go up every year for the night time parties. You must dress up or you will stick out like a sore thumb and the party goes on all night - it's the best street party I've ever been to. Nowadays we go up during the day to watch the processions and the costumes are fantastic. |

We went to a firework display in Los Realejos near Puerto on May 3rd this year. I was absolutely amazing. I have never seen fireworks like them and they went on for hours. 8 of us hired a minibus and it worked out really cheap. Only about 12 or 13 euros a head.
We will definatley be going again next May. |

Sorry Jenny Yes Carnival....we have been to some fiestas but never managed to get to any Carnivals last year in February.
It is rather difficult because people say 'oh you must go to Santa Cruz' That just seems so far away.
I would rather go nearer but i was told IT WAS NOT WORTH IT. 
I am assuming your pics are local Jenny...if this is the case then I will be going this tima as the children would love to dress up...

as Jenny said, Carnaval in Santa Cruz is regarded second in the world to Rio Carnaval. I haven't ever been myself, as my daughter was born over the Carnaval period, and there's always been family out for her birthday... maybe this year my mum can come out and I'll just take a couple of days off to go, leaving the kiddies with Grandma
