I could lie and say it's because of the warm fuzzy feeling I get every morning when I get out of bed knowing that I shall trudge through 3 inches of snow, (for 5 months of the year) when it's minus 20 to buy a loaf of bread and a pint of milk from the local kiosk. |
Do you speak Russian then? I'm assuming so, as I can't imagine there being many English-speaking folk in Moscow, but I could be wrong!
Lots of rich Russians come over to Tenerife to live/holiday... you'd be surprised how useful the Russian language is over here, so maybe you could join your brother in a few years! _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

I like vodka... I currently have two bottles of nice russian stuff downstairs that were prezzies for being nice to people! I have to hide them away so the bloke doesn't cane them, as contrary to popular belief, I'm not a total drunk (only when I go to meet-ups and parties )
Just need some tomato juice now... mmmm... bloody maries! _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |

I easily get by with everyday conversation. Quantum physics might have me scracthing my head though. Surprisingly a very high percentage of Russians speak a foreign language. English is the preferred choice by many and whether it's an educated student from MGU or a drunk in the bar they enjoy a good yatter.
I'd have to join my brother in a few months and not years, senile dementia is no doubt setting in at his age. _________________ I'll make bail so fast my soup will still be warm ! - Sopranos. |

Yeap. He hasn't got the bottle to come over and see me. He's been pampered for too long. He needs to toughen up and come over here, where we shall drink warm beer and vodka with the rooskies until the early hours of the morning. We shall then go for a 'banya' (russian sauna) and be beaten with many beech twigs wrapped together (that's tradtional), swiftly onto more warm beer and vodka, then back into the banya and finally a good roll round in a ft of snow to cool down afterwards. (that's tradtional as well)
I'll book the tickets now. _________________ I'll make bail so fast my soup will still be warm ! - Sopranos. |

The domestic flights are notorious in Russia.
This is a true story and an example of one of those where an expat living in Moscow shouldn't be shocked. I was !
A friend was on a flight from Moscow to Chelyabinsk. That's about a 3 hour flight as the crow flies.
Liking his alcohol and having had a stressful few days he wandered to the back of the plane where he noticed the stewards had gathered to drink Vodka. (This is relatively normal on domestic flights).
He sat down and quickly befriended them. The next round of shots were poured and they all downed them in one with great gusto. At this point one of the stewards poured another shot, stood up and announced the captain will be looking forward to this and off he headed (vodka shot in hand) to the flight deck. My mate told me that is when he stopped enjoying the light-hearted banter at the back of the plane. _________________ I'll make bail so fast my soup will still be warm ! - Sopranos. |

Now that does sound scary.....
When I went to Japan in 1993 on Russias internation airline....Aeroflop...heehee sorry Aeroflot.. I was very disheartened to find out that british Aviation were trying to stop this airline flying into London...Nether the less after a chat with BAA, they assured me this would be ok.
So off I went on my holiday. Whilst in Japan for 2 of my 3 weeks, the international English paper 'The Japan Times' had an article about a plane crash over Siberia in which 187 passengers died....mostly English.
Not much more was said. So when I went to get my flight home I was a tad worried as this had been my first flight ever..
We stopped off at Moscow for a few hours and I was browsing in the duty free shop, when on the radio..(an english station).the guy announced that the flight Airbus A310 that had crashed the week before, had been caused by the pilots 14 year old son...He was giving him lessons when he had pressed the wrong buttons and down went the plane....needless to say I was then poohing my pants all the way to Heathrow...whether there was vodka involved...It is anyones guess..lol
Sorry about that just though I would tell my little story lol _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

I was on a christmas eve flight from London to Liverpool one year to go back and see my parents and the plane was deleyed due to bad weather... whe we finally took off, everyone cheered, but that quickly turned to screams as we hit bad turbulence! Do you remember that scene out of 'Airplane' where the nun is playing the guitar? _________________ Buy & Sell your stuff online FREE - www.canarianexchange.com - eBay for the Canaries |
