What is oily fish in Spanish? The ones with the most Omega 3 in them? My dad needs to eat them and I don't know how to ask for them! We know the names of a few of them here but what is the collective noun? I believe it is not pescado azul.

Things have OMEGA 3 added but don't really contain them naturally.

Please ask your friend. I've looked it up in my HUGE dictionary and even asked in the fish market and supermarkets but they don't know so I'm not 100% sure there is a word for it.

Oily fish in Spanish is commonly known as pescado azul or pescado oleico amongst the enriched omega 3 fishes there are leaner ones these would be besugo- sea bream, trucha- trout, jurel-horse mackerel, pez espada-sword fish with between 2 and 5 gms of omega oil per 100 gms, the semi enriched ones are bonito- type of younger tuna, sardinas frescas- fresh sardines, boquerones-anchovies with 6 and 10 gms of oil per 100 gms and the most enriched are caballa-makerel, atún fresco- fresh tuna, salmón- salmon, arenques, herirings and angulas, anguilas- eels with 10 grms of oil per 100 gms.

Hope this will be of some help, the Los Cristianos fish stalls are very good and they may be able to help you with this. Very Happy Mermaid

Thanks Caty, I've written all that down for next time my parents go fish-shopping so they can just show the piece of paper or try to pronounce it Laughing
