I have noticed a a few trees around recently with large bunches of fuit not unlike Mangos. I looked up Mangos and they are not what I have seen. The leaves are very like those of the Castor Oil plant but thinner. The fruit hang in one big bunch around the top of the trunk and are very large. The seem to be starting to ripen at the moment. Any Ideas?

Friends of mine had one in their garden, right near the road. Every year they would nurture it and wait for the fruit only for some mean **** to pinch them. In a fit of rage he cut the tree down. Laughing Laughing

Seeing as they grow well here and produce hundreds of seeds they could be easily grown that way as could most other trees here.

I must be the only person that can kill plants that people have told me dont need looking after.

I have no luck with them whatsoever. While everyone elses are flourishing mine look more like they have had a night on the town Crying or Very sad

Keep them in, take them out. Leave them in leave them out. Water them, dont water them, take them out the sun, keep them in the sun.

Its all so confusing.

Bard if I want to buy a good leafy outdoor plant that I can water every 2 or 3 days and will not die if the sun shines on it what would you recommend.

Thanks for any help Embarassed

Something I can buy in a garden centre or Hypertrebol lol

I recommend growing your own from seed and that way you can get plenty so if some fail others will be OK and you will have the excitement of knowing it is a plant you have cultivated.

There's loads that grow easily from seeds and you see the seeds in pods and in the case of many of the palms scattered all over the ground.

If you must buy plants then geraniums are pretty tough and very popular here. Depends what you want really - I mean do you want flowers, a bush or shrub, fruit or veg or a tree?

How about growing some peppers - chilli or sweet? They grow easily from seed and get both leafy and attractive with the peppers.

I know you have a great passion for this Bard but on the other hand I am quite lazy and impatient. And I do not have the time (I know a very poor and lame excuse)

I want something I can pot that is quite or very leafy, anything from 20cm plus in height. Can have flowers or not, in fact it does not have be to completely green.

It will be for a terrace that will probably in the the sun most of the time.

I just want the area to look green and leafy.

You can tell I have had no experience in this area ever Embarassed

Here is my poor excuse of plants at the moment. I am sure I can hear them saying 'let us die with some dignity, no more watering or moving'

Karl from the sounds of what you are saying I would recommend an Umbrella plant. We have one on our balcony so it will do fine on yours too.

We bought ours a year ago and it was already very large and it cost us about 40 euros. It has grown to over eight feet and spread to about 4 feet.

It is very easy to look after - a good watering every 3 days or so and plant feed now and again.

We got ours at the fanabe garden centre ( just off the Motorway ). I will email you a pic of mine so you know what you are looking for.

They deliver free too. They asked what time we would be home and turned up about 10 minutes after we got in.

Mother in laws tongue is doing really well on my terrace too. They are spreading fast and only cost us about 5 euros - will send u pics on those too.

Why do the leaves brown at the ends?

I don't know exactly but it happens a lot and often doesn't affect the rest of the leaf or the plant. Cut the brown tips off if you want. They are dead but the green part is still useful to the plant to photosynthesize. In the uk spider plants nearly always do this. It doesn't happen if the conditions are perfect but this is a very rare condition for any plant to be in for long!

It is because of this that people cut off the browning leaves of palms and dragon trees and they often prune away the living leaves too so neither tree is allowed to grow as nature intended.
