hello .... what carnivals, fiesta's or other do's are on in the reef up to and including xmas and the new year.? we wanted to see the festival of the kings parade this year, (in adeje) but we were told that due to traffic problems last year all festivities were going to be held in los cris.. we did watch some firework displays but i think that was from a hotel near ours....

Have u got all night? What carnavals and fiestas between now and christmas? Almost every week there's one some where. I see firework displays from my terrace almost weekly. There's corpus christi in June where the streets and squares are covered in coloured sand or flower petals, every town and village has at least one fiesta to honour their patron saint. You'd have a job to come here and not see at least one. Don't fret u won't miss out.

Yes, Sara, this place spoils you for choice with this sort of thing!

I really enjoyed the carnival in Santa Cruz but maybe that was cos I was in it in the main procession?

I can't remember what the blonde's name was but then we had been drinking all day! She was a friend of Charlie's and he's the Goth. He is a DJ in Puerto de la Cruz. It was funny though because I have a lot of American Goth friends and had done a search online and there were no results here! So I thought I had found the only Goths in Tenerife! Laughing

We recently drove up to see that Candelmass festival and it was great...didn't hear an English speaking voice the whole time. Good street market and atmosphere. Unfortunately we went into Canarian fish place for lunch and completely missed the main event! Ooops. We did have a good nosh up though - no idea what we asked for but it tasted good! Cool

On this note I must add how great it was to have the locals enjoy our phrase book attempts at conversation - having lived in Holland for 5 years with the Dutch who think it's pathetic that we don't speak their language as a matter of course it was refreshing and filled me with the confidence to start my lessons when I come over.

I am glad to hear you have been enjoying island life and culture and yes, it has been my experience too to find that Canarians appreciate us having a go at their language. It's good way to learn!

YES! We had so much fun having a go...stopped off at a steak place on way back from long day of bar hunting and greatly entertained the waiters with our phrase books. After a few glassed of wine I progressed from menus to medical matters... telling a nice Canarian waiter he needs an injection or has an infection was fun! Even better when I wanted to ask for a doggy bag... Shocked
