If anyone is curious about the price of shipping a car straight from the U.K to Tenerife, I just got a quote with www.autoshippers.co.uk (mentioned somewhere on the forum before).

The charge for a standard family type car is £750 GBP. The price is based on the owner delivering the car to Portsmouth docks, and does not include Export Documentation charged at £24.50. They also offer additional services such as U.K wide car collection. Please also note that you are not allowed to load up the car with personal possessions, this is a 'car only' service.

They say that their ferries leave every 7 days, and that the journey also takes about 7 days. I think they also offer a limited amount of accomodation onboard if anyone is sad enough to want to travel on an industrial ferry the whole way just so they can get seasick and throw up over their car each night.

It's cheaper to ship your car out and fly than it is to drive down and catch two ferries. Why bring a car from the UK when cars are cheap to buy here? To legally import one, register it here and pay the import duties takes the shine off any car.

I'm driving down from the UK in March. Taking the channel tunnel then driving down through France and Spain over about 5 days then we are taking the ferry from Cadiz to Tenerife, Ferry costs about 600 for a car and 2 people. Journey on the ferry is only about 30 Hours.

We are booked on a Trasmediterranea ferry but we booked through Direct Ferries. http://www.directferries.co.uk.

Be aware that some of the ferry schedules change in the new year and some routes are not avaliable. Like the Cadiz to Santa Cruz de La Palma which is the route I want.... so I am having to come via Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and then take the Fred Olsen ferry from Los Christainos

Hi Helresa, we have done that trip to Tenerife 4 or 5 times, we just like riding around Spain, and when we have time we include a trip to the UK. Can't wait until the next time.

We always seem to end up arriving in France around Midday, then you lose an hour, so we have one stop over in France, normally at a F1 Hotel when we get tired. Depending how far into France you get on your first day, you can get to Cadiz without a stop over, but thats pushing it. We like Spain, so we normally take at least 2 stop overs in Spain, using pensions, they are great and cheap.

We did manage to travel from Cadiz upto Calais on the toll roads in one day once (must have been mad), never again.

We generally have a car ful lof stuff, never been a problem, It's quite amazing when you get to the port in Cadiz and see how much stuff other people have managed to get in their cars!

On the other hand we have had stuff sent over by Worldwide (Formerly Union Jack), have used them several times, including their storage facility when we have been inbetween properties here in Tenerife. The following link should help
http://www.goworldwidesl.com/test.htm

Hope this helps.

Hi Maxine,
It all depends on what you are thinking of bringing with you and how much it is worth to you.
You can buy most things here on Tenerife, unless it has a sentimental value to yourself, it's probably not worth the cost.

Hope that helps

Post Post subject: Shipping stuff Reply with quote

We are also using Go worldwide to ship the majority of our things. We are paying around £2000 including insurance for them to ship the contents of our 30Sq foot storage unit from London over to La Palma. This is mainly household stuff, books, DVD's etc. The more delicate stuff such as TV and computers and Telescopes we will be driving down ourselves. We have decided to take a little time over the journy down and have split it over 5 days.
