| Are there any Americans living on Tenerife? I have lost my beloved husband. We had long range plans to relocate there. Options - work for a middle aged widow? |

Hi stella,
Sorry to hear of your sad loss. I can't be of any help with your re-location plans, but wanted to send you my best wishes for success and your future happiness |

Stella:
I think the last survey issued by the Tenerife Government showed about 1,000 Americans living in the Canary Islands. Although the Canarian Government does not spend a lot of money marketing the islands to the North Americans, you'll find the occasional American who will visit the islands. If rumours of an American military base being built in Tan Tan (Morocco) are true, you're going to see an explosion of American military personnel and their families visiting the Canaries during R & R.
I'm Hawaiian, living in Colorado. My wife is Canarian with dual Spanish-American citizenship. She needs to move back home (Tenerife) and we will do that near the end of the year (2005).
The islands are beautiful, and very similar to Hawaii. The culture is different, however, but certainly worth exploring.
By the way, there are a lot of American musicians who play in the Tenerife Symphony.
Don't be afraid to make the move. Jobs are, well, difficult, but what a marvelous place to spend the remainder of ones life.
Best wishes! |
