Post subject: Obtaining an NIE from the UK prior to moving to Tenerife |
|
|
I contacted the Consulado General De Espana in Manchester with regards to obtaining an NIE number before arriving in Spain and it can be done. You can do what most people do and attend at a spanish police station and theres plenty of information within this forum to this effect however I recieved the following letter when I contacted the Consulado but please note they dont issue the NIE numbers they just act as a postal service between the UK and Spain/Tenerife and can take up to 3 months: -
Brook House
70 Spring Garden Manchester
M2 2BQ
Tel: (0161)2361262 Fax: (0161)2287467
Correo electrónico: cog.manchester@mae.es
Office hours: Monday-Friday 9am-2pm
-No appointment required-
HOW TO OBTAIN AN NIE NUMBER –
(NÚMERO IDENTIFICACIÓN EXTRANJEROS)
ONLY FOR RESIDENTS IN OUR JURISDICTION (See Below)
1. - An application for an NIE number should be made in person at the nearest Police Station in Spain where you intend to live or where you have or intend to have property.
2. - You can also apply through our consulate but in that case you must know that it will take 3 months for you to receive the number (from the General Police in Spain). The Spanish Consulate General cannot issue NIE numbers. It only acts as a “postal box” between the applicant and the competent Authorities in Spain.
3. - If you wish to send your application through this Consulate you will have to come in person to our office and bring the following:
(a) Your valid passport and a photocopy of the photo page. (It should be on the top half of the page, since we need to stamp the bottom half).
(b) Two passport size photographs.
(c) Two application forms for NIE per person duly completed but NOT SIGNED as you will need to sign in our presence. This form cannot be obtained at the Consulate, and must be obtained in the Comisaria de Policia in Spain or through the internet, web page :
http://www.mir.es/SGACAVT/modelos/extranjeria/modelos_extranje/ex_14.pdf
Please, note that owing to the big demand of applicants, we cannot
assist in translating the document.
(d) An envelope addressed to: (no stamp needed)
Comisaría General de Extranjería y Documentación
Dirección General de Policía
C/ General Pardiñas nº 90
28006 Madrid
4. - There will be a fee of £22 (it should be the exact amount in cash only).
5. - We would emphasize that this Consulate General cannot issue NIE numbers.
6. - It is not possible to give any further information on the matter once the application has been placed with us and sent to the relevant authorities in Spain.
7. - Thereafter any enquiries should be made direct to the address at 3 (d) above and
NOT to this Consulate.
