Chris has always wanted a Landrover Defender
Anyway after being in my brother in laws all weekend he wants one now even more, however as I pointed out this will eat into our going to Tenerife fund so if he gets one it will have to be able to go to Tenerife.
Which would mean we would drive it down like Sam to Tenerife.
We should be able to et quite a bit inside it too, and he also thought it would come in handy living over there as we could go up the mountains in it and everything.
Only thing is if we get a left hand drive one the insurance over here will be a lot more and also we do not know what it is like to get parts etc over in Tenerife.
What do all you knowledgable people think ?

A crazy idea. Does he think that Seat Pandas with four adults in them can't get up the mountains? Take a look up in the national park any day of the week and see how many make it up there. Why lug around an extra ton of metal compared with a small saloon car? How much do tyres cost? fuel consumption? Why own one? To keep up with an image? How much are you prepared to pay out each month for that? I thought that you were coming to Tenerife to live a simple, laid back life? Who's going to put in the extra work just to pay the extra cost of owning a 4wd eco disaster? Have you tried to park one Leanne?
Driving here in a tank, that to keep here legally, you must officially import (more expense) is an expensive way of importing a few 'goods and chattels'.
That's me in Chris's bad books! _________________ .

Hello Rob, do you know which one he is on about... a Landrover defender... it is definately not an image factor at all otherwise he would be portraying coming to tenerife with a flat cap and whippet in boot lol !
My brother in law has one they are cheap to buy, cheap to run, parts are cheap, they last for many many years, cheap to insure and the fuel consumption is fantastic, Kirk's yesterday took four of us around all of the north west for over 6 hours and it used half a tank ! Chris knows all the techincal rubbish about them but it is definately not an expensive or fancy car to run in the slightest infact they are quiet rustic _________________ www.secretgardenholistics.com

Yes I do, cost upwards of £20,000, for this you can have a pair of cars AND some money in the bank. The most 'ungreen' vehicle in the ECO range. Half a 60 litre tank costs a lot more than half a 40 litre tank. Tyres are far more expensive and they don't last as long as tyres on a small car driven at the same speed....top speed less than 90 MPH Spares are not as cheap as say a seat panda. New engine 8,500 Euros.....new engine Seat Panda 1,500 Euros.
You did ask my opinion. _________________ .

He isn't buying a brand new one he is buying a second hand one which start at £ 1000 upwards and then you do them up to as you like them.
Thought is would have more chance of getting us 2500 miles to the Reef and more room for 2 of us and a dog etc .... also we could use it while we still live over here for taking the dog out, camping , living in the hills is not always the easiest when it is snowing.....like it does often over here.in the winter ....
It was either that or a mega cheap little car which we could just run into the ground and it wouldn't retain it's money as with old Landrovers they retain their value and you can even increase the value.....
Don't know what we will end up doing yet, I thought I saw some of them knocking around without tops on when we were last over so thought they might be a market for them out there......
And there is a lot for sale over here left hand drives.....
Might turn up yet in a Nissan Micra with Tipsy on the roof _________________ www.secretgardenholistics.com

£1000 land rovers only hold their value while they keep going. If a £1,000 land rover was so reliable and wonderful why would anyone spend £20,000 plus on buying a new one? Because spending £1,000 on an old car isn't worth maintaining it and doing it up but on a landrover it is?
I'm fighting a losing battle here.. my opinion and advice still stand. Join the happy band of those that ask for my advice then ignore it. You may just be the one in a thousand who gets lucky and buys a £1,000 banger and it makes it here.
I still think you're wonderful even if you don't agree with me. _________________ .
