Post Post subject: Obtaining An N.I.E With a UK Address Reply with quote

I am planning on obtaining my N.I.E next March when I am back on the reef & have downloaded the forms (Thanks Jenny) and filled in the majority of the form in Spanish. (Thanks to Stripps & Ezzy)

However there is one question which I am not sure what to put as I do not have a residence in Tenerife.....yet?

Domicilio en Espana = United Kingdom?

Has anyone else got a N.I.E from the UK by going to the local Police Station with the form and if so what did you put as your place of residence?

I have searched the Forum & I see you can apply via the Consulado General De Espana in Manchester / London but it would easier for me to actually go to the Playas las Americas Police Station when I'm next on holiday?

I will be looking to buy an Apartment late 2008 early 2009 so there is no immediate rush but I just want to be ready....... Confused

It is rather easy if you want to get up at some stupid tije in the morning......go down there collect a ticket....one of 50...if you are lucky then wait around for the police station to open...hand forms in then leave it for about a week....

Then you have to go back to collect it....

For those who live here this is not a problem......BUT if you are onholiday while doing it then it takes up 2 half days...as you still have to wait in the queue the next time to collect it...although this does not take as long.

A few of our locals have done it recently and also some have applied from the UK.

It may be better and less hassle to apply in the UK...My only issue with that is that you have to pay lol......here it is free

Regarding address - do you have a friend who lives here or owns a property here? I would just put their address.

Juum and I have just been to the police station this morning (queuing since about 7.30am til they opened at 9) to get him and NIE and me a residency certificate. We now have to go back at 11.45am to actually sort it out so will keep you posted.

Thanks Stripps

The only problem with me applying in the UK is I have to go to either Manchester/London (at least I think) which from where I live is 3-4 hours in either direction, hence why I wondered if it were simpler to go down the Police Station route?

Regards

Hi Jenny

Unfortunately I do not know anyone on the reef apart from the brief conversations with you guys & gals on the forum?

If this is going to be a problem I will have to apply from the UK and take a trip to London to sort it out?

Hope you manage to sort out your residency certificate and Juum's NIE?

We did get them both sorted. Juum's got to go back in a few days to collect his NIE. I got my residency cerificate there and then I will make another post about that when (if) I get a moment.

Not sure what you can do about the address. Anyone else got any idea?

if you are applying in the UK can you not use the address you currently live at???

I know it is a trek but you could make a day off it in london lol...

Failing that .....when you come here get it in the UK address...i think this is what happens when people are buying property here...they dont have a spanish address until they have bought it so use their UK address....

that may be an option.

Yeah if I apply in the UK I can use my UK address, however if I do so in Tenerife I think I am supposed to use a reef residence?

I was wondering if anyone else had tried to obtain their NIE like I was planning to do?

I want to open a Bank account probably with CajaCanarias and need my NIE before doing so.

I suppose I could take a Day Trip to London & see the sights and apply for one from the UK - as you say though it is £22 each and we need 2?

Thanks for your help & suggestions

Not true, you can open a non-resident account with a passport instead of your NIE

Hi Rob

I was using the information on the CajaCanarias 'Useful information for non-residents' please see below;

"Useful information for non-residents :-
Those international clients that can accredit their residence in Spain shall be subject to the tax status of Spanish residents that is applicable at any given time.

Those international clients that are not resident shall be subject to the tax status of non-residents and double taxation agreements (where these exist) applicable at any given time. Thus, the circumstance may arise where certain investments are not subject to tax in Spain, but are subject to tax in the country in which the client resides.

For certain investments made by non-resident clients the non-national identification number (Número de Identificación de Extranjero (NIE)) issued by the Ministry of the Interior or competent authority will have to be presented. This is a personal, sole and exclusive number which is sequential and which identifies foreigners that have relations with Spain for economic, professional or social interests. "

I am opening a Spanish Account for the purpose of an eventual Mortgage, plus I intend to deposit income from the rental of my house here in the UK?

Regards

Z

You can change the account over once you're resident.

We went to Manchester to apply for our NIE's in August, with the forms we downloaded and printed after getting all the info from this forum.

(Thanks to everyone who put any info on)

I e-mailed them regarding our address and was told to leave it blank
and they asked us to write our current address at the bottom of the form when we got there.

We thought we were going to have to pay £22.00 each.

The lady said that is has now changed and it is free.
So we walked away very happy.

It does take 3 months to come through.
