Post subject: I've done it again - it was a holiday and I didn't know |
|

I thought I was getting the hang of knowing when all the holidays were here and I thought today was just a Santa Cruz carnaval day, which I wanted to go to but decided against because I didn't have time after I had done all the work I intended for the day. However, I have got time to go into Icod I thought to do some shopping. I got the bus and got there only to find the streets nearly deserted after 5pm and all shops and most everything else closed! What holiday closes everything on a Tuesday I wonder?
Am eating boring salad sandwiches for tea! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I see - thanks for the info, Rob! Seems strange that the rest of the island closes down when all the action is going on in Santa Cruz or were there other main parades going on?
Yesterday I went to Puerto on the bus late afternoon via La Guancha and it filled up on both journeys with teenagers dressed in leopard or dalmatian or some sort of spotty furry animals and girls with face-painted faces and some young men sporting waistcoats with "warrior" and a Hell's Angel style logos on the back. A couple of the boys had bright dyes on their hair. They were all singing loudly but I didn't know the songs which were in Spanish! The bus there was shrouded in thick cloud and coming back in teeming rain. There were people in varied costumes in Puerto too so I assumed it was going on then.
Ah well, missed it all again! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I posted brief details on here in the carnival section as well as a full program in the carnaval secttion on the home page of the website sun4free.com .....you may have heard of this site! Try searching on Google for tenerife carnival or tenerife carnaval.
PS It's still going on..... Later you'll have Puerto de la Cruz carnival, then Los Cristianos. _________________ .

I did see the details here but didn't realise the main parade day would close down everything here - that's what caught me out! I was thinking the different towns have different days for their parades and so it would all go on as normal here but obviously I was wrong! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

You are probably right! And salad sandwiches don't fill me up unless I eat loads and I was running out of bread too! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

I went up to Santa Cruz yesterday and I reckon a large percentage of islanders were there too and that's why everything closes!! You could hardly move in some places! And I had to park by the Auditorium and walk to the Plaza de España where I met up with friends. _________________ Who am I? I will make this day a happy one for I alone can determine what kind of day it will be. |

Glad to hear you got there, Jenny!
It sounds like it might have been a problem getting back for me if the buses were full with all those people. The buses were full between here and Puerto on Monday so it sounds likely they would have been!
Did you get any pics? _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

Just a couple of Xoaquin but my battery ran out. My friend took lots though. Will try to get hold of some.
After the carnival we all went to hers for pancakes. _________________ Who am I? Find out more here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=17

Try this site:
www.canariasfiesta.com
My good Canarian friend Ivan told me that Spain has the most holidays of Europe, & the province of Los Realejos has the highest number per annum in the whole of Spain.
Imagine: 80-something holidays per year. |
